What does replacement of these parts indicate?

Hi guys, I'm hopefully test-driving at a 2000 LX tomorrow with 157K on it. Local truck, which means probably some rust underneath. The [somewhat reputable] used lot that has it gave me a list of things they had replaced when they took the truck in on trade.
Rear pads/rotors/calipers (standard stuff)
Front CV shafts
Front sway bar links
Rear link bushings
Rear differential upper and lower control arms
Then they undercoated the whole truck. The control arm replacement seems a bit large-scale to me.
Responsible "reconditioning" or hiding more rust?:hhmm:
They're asking $14,800, probably due to the $3500 reconditioning. But it's been sitting there for 13 months, so I imagine they're getting pretty motivated. TB done at 95k in 2006, so coming up due soon based on the 7year interval or could be left a few more years if going by the 90k interval. The AHC test was good for about 10 notches, but it was overfilled quite a bit. Problem?
It's one of the trucks neoworm suggested looking at.

Thanks for the help, mudders!

Headlight washers and undercoating are red flags to me...

I don't think headlight washers were even an option on US LX 470's. So how could this be a truly "local" vehicle?

Typically a seller sprays undercoating on a used vehicle to hide stuff. I'm thinking this one came from Canada and had some rust underneath, which is now covered up by the undercoating.

If you're still not deterred ,find out if the new CV axles are OEM or aftermarket. If the latter; yet another reason to keep looking.

Is the U.S.A. the only country to have local vehicles? :p B.C. man! Whipsaw! I KNOW you Yanks have heard of B.C.

According to the repair records from Applewood itself, they used all jobber parts. I was wondering about that... maybe I'll stay away. That's the same thought I had on the undercoating, but it seems they do it to all their used inventory to make it look pretty. We don't have huge rust problems here, basically Seattle climate.

AD says ODO: 253864 not 157K. nother red flag

Clead,

I'm an idiot and I apologize. I saw the .ca on the ad and for some stupid reason came up with the conclusion that it was California.

Not only have I heard of B.C., I've been there and it's spectacular!

NO worries..
Now, thoughts on the use of aftermarket parts and the undercoating? Is it even reasonable to undercoat "honestly":hhmm:

The only "red-flag" I see on that list for aftermarket parts is the CV axles. Pretty poor performance from them from folks on the board compared to OEM which seem to last a LONG time if taken care of. I would "prefer" OEM brake pads/rotors not knowing what they used, but I'd really prefer aftermarket rotors. Sway bar end links are no biggie to go aftermarket, IMHO. I just did OEM upper rear control arms and Slee lowers. Aftermarket is probably ok there too. At least I wouldn't go out of my way to change it. The aftermarket CV's would probably be a deal-breaker for me at market price, since many have had issues shortly after installing and have reverted back to OEM.

253864 is Kilometers.....that equals 157,000 of "our miles"

Not a red flag......just our friendly neighbors to the North.

Doh! My bad. Duh. Carry on

Clead,

You should be able to find something better with fewer miles if you have time to wait. Last year I helped a friend find a 2002 LX470 for $12,000. I think it had around 150,000kms. I have a feeling the one you are looking at might be from out east where road salt kills the vehicles. Here in BC rust isn't much of a problem.

Wow, a Canadian '02 LX for $12k. That's a smoking deal:cheers:
The carfax etc package for the truck are complete with Aircare records for almost all years, so I know it spent at least some of its time down here. It's never been registered out of B.C. either.
Somewhat academic as I didn't get a great feel from it when I test drove it last Friday. It had some odd brake sounds while moving it out of the dealer lot to drive it, and they had to jump it only 4 weeks after I last looked at it (running). Parasitic draw?
