We got a new dog around Christmas time. First time I've ever owned a dog in 38 years. She's a great dog, heeler/collie mix thingy, about 2 years old. She usually eats 2x/day, a cup full of kibble and a couple of spoonfulls of whatever we're eating, and the occassional can of dog food.

Is it bad to feed them whatever you eat? Food to stay away from? She loves all veggies, except for broccoli. Likes yogurt, cheese, cooked carrots, and well, pretty much everything. She's not thin, and seems to have a good layer of fat on her. Dumps regularly. She weighs about 40 lbs, and best of all is a great "cruiser-dog". :)

(She hardly ever gets the "greenies' shown in the picture)

We have 4 dogs and we feed them Costco Lamb & Rice. We used to give them some table scraps. After having to have our 4 year old's teeth cleaned for the toon of $400, we are a lot more selective what we feed them. No sugar, and almost no scraps, only meat & veggies (besides the Lamb & Rice).

What I feed this pig...

I feed Tiger 1 cup of Eukanuba Lamb and Rice 3X a day. He's on medication for epilepsy...so it makes him into a pig. We try not to feed him any scraps, b/c he starts to beg.

I was feeding the Costco lamb/rice, but they don't seem to like it so much and it gives them mad gas. They do like Iams lamb/rice and Nutro lamb/rice for large breed dogs. Lately it's been Nutro. It's more expensive, but they like it better and I like the reduced emissions.

We did the Nutro for a long time w/ our Newfoundland. Really kept her weight under control, which helps with joint issues. Now we feed her Nutra from Costco. Same as Nutro but under different label. Saves big time. Table scraps- never, talk to the vet, bad news for dogs in most cases. Cool pict of her in the Cruiser. My 100+ pound Newfi can't ride in the FJ40. Momma doesn't want her baby to get dirty, the dog that is:rolleyes:

DO NOT feed them s*** food -- garbage in, gargage out, folks -- trash food will make them sick and shorten their lives -- things like cancer come from junk food, i believe -- usually the "costco" label parallels s*** in any product --

-- my dogs eat better than i -- a wholly USDA raw diet, 100% natural, here --

http://www.spbr.org/raw/raw.htm

Rice and grains and "fillers" are not normal in canine lineage for a diet -- meat and bones and organs are -- plus a small amount of veggies --

-- look at the first 4 ingredients on your bag -- they're likely fillers and junk --

-- and the rest of the ingredients are the disguise the petfood companies use to convince your dog to eat the junk --

-- imagine if you lived on mcdonalds your whole life -- well, you'd get by, and imagine your death at 55 --

i am passionate about this -- and my dogs do eat better than i do --

What'll you do when you run out of neighbors to feed them, start a commune?:D

Started out with the crap you get from the grocery store. Then did my usual ADD/hyperfocusing research and found Blackwood 1000. Asked 2 veterinarians about it and they agreed that it was good stuff.

Eric

I thought you said, "Trash in Trash out"? ;-)

I apllaud your feeling about "Natural". However, after long conversations with vets, breeders and research of the like, Nutro is a great choice, if not number one, for your pet. Just by happen stance my wife and I were in Costco and compared label for label. Try it sometime before you come out with a generalized blank statement like "DO NOT feed them s*** food -- garbage in, gargage out, folks -- trash food will make them sick and shorten their lives -- things like cancer come from junk food, i believe -- usually the "costco" label parallels s*** in any product --". I agree with not feeding your dog "trash", but this item in itself is not that. However, I have four human mouths to feed let alone the dog and cat. I didn't waste $1500+ on buying my purebreed newfy to feed her :censor: . Just my $.02:cool:

Eric, who will feed your babies when you croak at a young age from eating worse than a dog?

By the way, my freezer looks like yours, only I use freezer paper rather than plastic...
