What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

I have a set of these I need to install in back doors. Is installation a pain?
I am a one banana mechanic (bordering on a dumbass) and I thought it wasn't bad at all. Someone more mechanically inclined would probably say it was a breeze. I'd say it takes about half an hour to 45 minutes per door.

Are they front and rear dependents? Can the fronts work with the rears?
They are door specific (FR, FL, RR, RL). I had read that you could use the FR in the RL and the FL in the RR but I have not tried it so I can't confirm or deny.

Next up is a Dorman window regulator/motor to save myself form getting stuck somewhere with the driver's window stuck down. It has happened twice. Once I was home and I used needle nose pliers and a rag to help it along.

I might be missing something here but, why not get the Window Rocket instead? They’re not cheap but, they’re pretty easy to install and it only gets installed in one place and works on all four windows. It made a huge difference with my windows, even dealing with the Alaskan winters.

Well I got big life changes coming with my first child on the way in 8 more weeks. So I decided to remove my custom cargo retainer/sleeping pad support and put the rear seats back in. I don't forsee myself solo camping in the back anytime soon. I will just stick to my canvas tent or backpacking tent.

My homemade mattress support/cargo barrier thing worked great for all my solo adventures. View attachment 4136031View attachment 4136032View attachment 4136033View attachment 4136034

I also took the time to give it a quick cleaning and scrapped off all the old crusty stickers. Now I am 100% exterior sticker free 🤣
Congrats on your first kid. From someone who's been there, I'd check if your 80's seat bottom has a infant seat tether anchor. If not, pick one up from your local auto supplier and secure it into your 80's floor. If you want to protect your back seat, buy an infant/child seat pad to go under the infant seat's detachable base. It'll keep the detachable base from sliding while also protecting your backseat from the base. Put your knee into the base when securing it with the seat belt. Once done, you'll be able to shake your 80 from the seat base. I know I could 🤣

I guess I’m to old, when I had infants there was no such thing as detachable base🤨

I did put my knee in the seat to get the seat tight.

I used to tell people that’s the only way to get right/safe

I was amazed at how many parents were driving around with the car seat lose 😳

If the motor is toast, window rocket will not work.
Ideally replace all 4 window regulators and then add window rocket. We all know with new regulators it still rolls up/down on the slow side.

It had a 3-inch lift on it before my work with no noticeable vibrations, but I know it is a big possibility that I will have to go to DC shafts. I want to get it running and run it down the road to see where I am at before just blindly pulling the trigger on the DC shafts.
Something in the back of my mind tells me that a DC shaft is pennies on the dollar for what you have in parts so far! That said, no reason to just throw parts at a problem that may not even exist...keep up the furious pace (and make most of us look like lazy bastards!)...you're coming along nicely!

I don't feel so bad though as I did a ton on mine before my recent Cruise Moab trip...my wife is happy that mine is taking a few month rest out in CO tucked in a friend's garage 2k miles away so I can't work on it! Now it's time to fix broken junk at work and home plus get the boat ready for the season!

Or no car seat at all... . Makes me insanely mad when I see kids just climbing around in a back seat not buckled in at all. Just because the parents are careless doesn't mean that the kid deserves what will happen in even in a mild crash.

Don’t get me wrong, I AM 100% going to do one, but not sure if I am doing it before I get it running and rolling. Also, its 5 weeks until GSMTR, and with the part-time kit installed, I know I can get there and back with out major vibrations. I just figured since I am swapping one 3” lift for another, I would probably be fine in the short term.

My driver's regulator has a stripped gear as well as an weak motor. The other windows are fine. The rig has 140k mi. I've put 22k mi on it in 7 years.

I live in CA. When it's cold in the winter we wear socks inside of our shoes and long sleeve t-shirts. :flipoff2:

I had that idea awhile ago. It's just a buck-boost voltage converter. I'd make my own if I needed it.

They are cheap. IYKYK.

Programmable DC-DC Buck Boost Converter 4A 5V to 30V In and 0.5V to 30V Out https://share.google/TvoaYjNWybOJOv1Cr

With this one you could run lower volts (13.5) in the summer to preserve the motors and higher volts (15-16v) in the winter when you need some extra power to move the frozen parts. I'd plug it right in place of the fuse. Easy-peasy.

Lmao, go to another country…you’ll see infants on the dash, lapping it, under the rear window, cargo compartment, between mom and dad on a moped. All while traveling exceedingly fast. Safety is relative to others.

Awesome....I think your paying for the bracket-(the cost of the window rocket). The PCBAs are pennies on ebay.

I had to replace the motor on my driver window post Window Rocket install. Not due to Window Rocket it was highly suspect before the install. I cleaned window runs on all 4 doors but did not replace regulators or motors on any of the other doors. So yeah, depending on pre-existing state of things the Window Rocket may not be the only fix. That said I highly recommend it after having mine for several months now.
