What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Here you go @jeremy j.... I've had them in for about 8 years. Thinking I've only changed the batteries once. They have a device that attaches to the back of your stereo that should be universal for all stereos with inputs for steering wheel controls.

I did the naughty thing and took off the horn cover and used a drill press to drill holes to embed the controls into the steering wheel

Appreciate it. Those look like they only have one remote wire so they might work. the one I bought has two swc wires and I couldn't get it to work with one.

I removed the rear heater blower since the coolant lines were already gone. Made a huge mess but got it cleaned up and back together. Added a under seat sub and did some stereo tuning. It is sounding much better now.

I've used this on more than 1 Android head unit. I haven't tried anything like a Kenwood or Sony or Pioneer

14 hours in the garage today, and did not get near enough done. It took 4 hours to drill out what I thought was a broken off bolt for the rear sway bar, but it turns out inside the housing, the bolt was bent. Finally, I noticed it was bent and was able to take an air hammer with a spike though a secondary hole and knock the bolt out of the hole. Then I had to chase the threads to make sure they were not messed up. Once the was done, I was able to install the Superior Engineering Heavy Duty Rear Sway bar and the LCP Severe Duty Rear Sway Bar Links. Also, got the front exhaust manifold cleaned up and painted and ready to go back in. I had to replace the rear exhaust manifold since 4 people including myself, a machine shop, and two people at a local LC shop could not get one of the studs out. The replacement will be here tomorrow. I also thought it was bad form to put the old distributor cap and rotor back in so I replaced them with new OEM.

In my infinite wisdom, I decided it was time to get the @Delta VS front bumper out of the packing it came in and start getting it ready to install. I was not ready for everything it took to get it to where I finished with it today. I bought a 12k Comeup winch to go in, plus I had Baja Designs XL 80’s in amber and a 20” bar to install. It took 2-3 hours of putting the winch in and taking it back out before I figured out the right way to install the winch with the solenoid. Finally i was ready to install the light bar, and realized that the solenoid was blocking me from installing the brackets, so I had to take the dang wince back out again and install the light bar brackets and put the winch back in for what seemed like the 8th time. I decided it was time to call it a day at this point and can get it installed later this week.

Some days are bigger labors of love than what we expect. Nice job!

It made me wish I had paid to have it installed before it was shipped. But my luck, I still would have had to take the winch out for the light bar brackets…

Snapped a rear RCV axle 😔

It's curious... the only broken axle posts I see are RCVs.
Guy’s that run them are usually running big tires and run harder trails.
What I put my 80 through the last few days I’m not surprised at all.

The replacement rear exhaust manifold I was able to get from @Fj80oregon arrived, and I was able to get it cleaned up, painted and ready for install! I also installed new studs and have new OEM O2 sensors to go in the manifolds. I hope things start moving faster, and hope to have the first crank on this new short block this weekend! I was also able to change what looks like the original fan clutch for a new OEM blue clutch I ordered from my local dealer.

Got my Cruise Moab raffle prizes in from Delta!
Some serious beef on these rear lower control arms! Hope these will hold up better than others have.
I also got a few of those things that I’ve always wanted but never pulled the trigger on till now.
My brother actually won the 1500 dollar gift certificate, but gave it to me since he has no 80 or 100.
The new control arms will go on this winter when I put my new front axle in, lower it 2” and add four deezzz.

so for anyone that’s had to deal with the broken yellow clip on their 80s for the back handle, pray for me.

It was in three pieces and have no idea how I managed to find them all.

You do know pretty much any auto parts store has these right? And if that's not good enough Toyota sells them. I answered your prayer. 😁
