I put the LX 450 to work with the trailer this weekend while enjoying some serious model railroading.

I transported 5 Freemo modules over to Cornfield 10 in McLean, IL while assisting my friends of the Illini Railroad Club. The IRC is the oldest RR club on campus across the country, perhaps the oldest RR club in the US. At one time they had several private railroad passenger cars to assist them in getting where they need to go, but they now depend on vehicles such as the LX.

Most may wonder, "WHAT THE HECK IS FREEMO?" It's a concept of modular model railroading that uses a few simple standards to build small, easily transportable modules that can be combined in ever changing large combinations. At Cornfield an old high school gym is used and filled up with model trains.

The pic above was taken early Saturday morning thus the lack of a crowd. Here's a link to an album of pics that better illustrate everything going on: Cornfield X Pics, April 2024
This is a video of one of my freights:

The value in Wits End was that they sold you all the parts needed in a kit. Nothing more frustrating than buying a thermostat from your local dealer only to find that it doesn't include the gasket.
Very true. I would use Wits End to get the PN and then use my local Toyota connection.

This is what I did with my suspension bushings. Buying from partsouq, I saved enough money that I could buy the WE press tools. Which seems kind of ironic in a way.

Driving the heck out of it now that it’s running like it should. Next I need to drain and fill the PS, Brake, Diffs, Transfer case, transmission, and coolant. Then do the front crank seal and oil pump seal.

Got the interior "good enough for government". Time to start working on the body.

While you are doing the front crank and oil pump, highly recommend going ahead and pull the exhaust manifolds and doing the oil cooler while you are in that far… also a great time to either rebuild or replace the PS pump if you haven’t done so already

Installed PDI airbox together with the PDI cross over delete. I had to cut the fender a bit as the airbox inlet is too big. Next is the stainless snorkel.

Lots of grit on that birf, what is that from? Looks like it was dropped in dirt or fine gravel.

Tech said the outer seals had been cut so water and dirt were able to get in.
I also don't think the previous owner(s) used the proper grease.
Thankfully, the Axles look great!

Never seen an oil cooler gasket leak?

Whats up with smearing CV grease all over your knuckle ball?
I think that's red tacky grease...just some added lube, I assume.
It's a 20+ year Land Cruiser shop so I'm good with it 👍

I've never seen the swivels get greased like that during a knuckle job.
