Now that is a nice rust free chassis. 😁

Denied AGAIN by the shiat show emissions in Colorado without even given a chance to get a test. I was told by an emissions tech last year, at this same air care Colorado station, to get the front lockouts to run the 80 on one of three RWD testing stations when I showed up with temp 31's installed on the 80 with a 3+ lift to pass emissions on the joke of someones brilliant idea to run an AWD emissions testing station that only allows 34's and under in a fawking state that has the highest concentration of 14'ers in the lower 48....

On goes the front lockouts as suggested, Already had the CDL switch, Then comes 2023, 1 hour plus trip to the same station and spewed out as much exhaust pollution as I have all year combined in my Cruiser since I don't drive it much only to be told my 80 is not allowed on a RWD testing machine.... I was given a form to fill out and a phone number to then now be told my VIN doesn't allow RWD testing even though it has a Toyota factory lockouts and CDL switch installed by a professional mechanic. No exceptions, no common sense or reasoning involved, not even an inspection or a verification of my VIN. Just a sold nope.

WTF do you have a RWD test station installed when you cant even use the damn thing. WTF is it for then? For cars made with no damn front wheels? Check bay 1 when you go get your emissions tested again and see if it is EVER in use. Your tax money put to good use once again.... Guess it was put in for some damn unicorn car made in China just in case....

I bought this thing 3 years after it was built with low mileage in 2000, drove it within months to Christo's home in Lakewood when he was working out of his garage @sleeoffroad to drive what I think became either the shortbus or schoolbus and loved it so much I immediately put on 35's and one of his first gen lifts. I have put on over 100K miles since that day on my Cruiser with absolutely zero issues EVER getting an emissions test passed over 15 years and some asshat shows up in the capital and decides to implement a shiat show of a joke emissions test now required by law just to be able to drive my vehicle on roads I have help pay to build for over 50 years.

About to drop about 50 F bombs on what this state has become..... What a bunch of nonsense.
Never expected a CA smog to be easier than what this CO smog situation sounds like. Jesus..

Thanks! Apologies, just saw your post.

I'm leaning towards the Kicker 47KSS6504 components for the front. The 6.5s have a top mount depth of 1-13/16" and should fit. Looking for others experience. I plan to mount the tweeters in the door sail using Solve functions mounts. I plan to go active with the fronts using a Kicker key 200 amp. I currently have some little Jensen 5.5s in the rear door that I will leave for the head unit to drive.

Anyone care to comment on getting two sets of speaker wire between the door and kick panel? looking for insight ;)

I'm on mud reading speaker threads now 🤣🍻

You know BillyGoat is a fan boy of the @Delta VS :flipoff2: The truth is that it's been holding up most excellent against the constant NorCal Sierra Granite, zero complaints :steer::hillbilly:

This trip was extra fun! For Ellis Peak the family 80 was piloted by my wife completing her first technically difficult trail and our youngest daughter took us back on the remainder of the Rubicon getting a wheel up and entering the three-wheel club.

I need to find a clean, stock paint 95 to 1997 fzj 80 preferably red to build for my wife now 🤣🍻

Fort Collins, I actually liked the idea. Seemed like a simple fix. Problem is they are so inconsistent, every tech you talk to has their own idea so every year its something different you have to deal with. Sold of the 31" 4runner wheels going off their advise... Looked absolutely stupid but always sent the :princess: LOL.

Problem with the OBDII is I rarely drive the 80, at some point the battery dies or is disconnected do do work on it. So in order to get a scan I have to drive the 80 up and down the front range to get it system ready to even see if there is an emission P401 code or cat issue. I drive it more just to be able to get the emissions checked and passed than I do for my own pleasure. I put on an additional 200 miles if I'm lucky just to make sure I'm not over polluting the earth with a 6000lb brick with a forklift engine.. And this makes sense how?

All good, rant over, I think I got tied up in watching the Broncos flop again and was feeling a little sad and angry LOL. I have a couple sets of F150 wheels I may try to fit with spacers. Pretty sure same bolt pattern with a smaller hub diameter so may try to mount up the 22's and run it in.:hillbilly:
Thank you for taking Russel Wilson. Seattle is eternally grateful.

I'm so glad they stopped emissions checks here in WA years ago. The hoops I had to jump through to pass (which ultimately defeated the point of the test) were frustrating. I had dual exhausts - I'd take one of the pipes off (behind the muffler for that bank) and the test site would think I only had one tail pipe, test that and be amazed at what great shape my truck was in. Definitely not the brightest bulbs ... And I never lied. The techs never asked if I had a second tail pipe. 🤷‍♂️

It's not that bad. He's just dealing with morons with power trip, kinda like cops. It has nothing to do with politics it is the fact that one company runs the emissions locations and they hire idiots who didn't make it at the oil change place at Walmart. I had no issues with it for the longest time just being smarter than those dummies. Moved to farm land so I don't even bother with it any more. Wish they did inspections in Colorado. So many idiots here with bald tires, bad brakes, no lights, and cell phones in their hands. Stupid and poor people in every state. It's got to be awful in a place like Alabama or Kentucky where people don't even get a basic education.

There's a few YouTube videos I'm going to have a look at those tonight.

I've got a nice Alpine deck but I'd really like to upgrade my speakers and add some bass. It's rough on those really long drives when I want good sounding music.

I upgraded my door speakers and added that tiny alpine 200w amp. Sounds great but missing some bass. Thinking of underseat powered sub under the drivers seat.

Do you have speaker and amp part numbers?

My Tacoma has a Rockford bass box, it's great, I'm going to measure and see if it'll fit in the back corner panel under the plastic molding. I've seen a few post to guys sneaking a subwoofer box back there.

After having some experience installing aftermarket speakers in a few LC's over the years, it really depends on what you're hoping to accomplish when you decide to upgrade your audio. Do you just want to replace some crackling worn-out speakers? Do you want more volume? Do you want more bass? What type of head-unit are you going to run? (in some cases, it may be all you need)

For example, I'm upgrading all the speakers in my '94 LC because I want good sound quality and I like to feel the music with some added bass. You can see in the photo how much of a difference in size there is from the factory to the after-market; with a simple speaker upgrade, most people would be happy. The speakers in the photos are the rear door speakers.

If you take the time to add some sound deadener, you'll enhance the sound in your rig just by canceling out background noise and concentrating the sound movement within the door. This is probably the easiest and most beneficial upgrade you can do with an audio upgrade. And....don't forget to put up weather/moisture barrier if you do....

Pulling a 2-strand speaker wire into the doors isn't hard, just time-consuming. Just make sure that's what you really need to do before you start getting into it. It can change an installation from a few hours to several hours or even longer depending on how you want the results to look. When you do that, you need to consider the location of the amp you want to run. You don't want to splice wire any more than absolutely necessary.

@ktmracer01 any suggestions for an tweeter that I can install in the mirror mounts.

I also don't really want to add an amp..
I don't personally. I've got a couple of infinity tweeters that I can check out today and see where they might fit. I know some guys have installed them on the upper part of the door panel that is plastic. I'd imagine with your expertise and 3D printing you might be able to print a mirror trim cover that can accommodate a tweeter. ;)

The door speakers I purchased are "ok", much better than stock but seems MB Quart is not quite the same quality as they were 25 years ago. I got these:
MB Quart DK1-113 - 5.25"
MB Quart DK1-116 - 6.5"
I suppose I should have splurged for the reference series. Definite upgrade from stock and were kinda "forced to fit" lol.

The amp I'm using is the Alpine KTP-445U which is awesome. I was able to put it where the factory amp used to be.

SMH, only 5 more years of this guaranteed..... He claims he has another 10 in him but is acting like he has never played before!
Good thing is our bar has been set very low for many years now so it can only get better, right?

The dude was pretty hard on team morale, too. Hopefully you don't suffer the same issue.
