What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (18 Viewers)

I parked next to an fj today. I parked next to a new 4runner the other day.

I always thought land cruisers were big. But compared to modern offerings the 80 isn't that big.

Agreed. I used to feel more secure in my “big old steel and glass and armored truck” when I first got mine about 10 years ago, but over the past decade virtually every car manufacturer has pumped out larger and larger beasts - some with factory off-road packages that make them even bigger, and now my 80 almost feels like a standard or medium sized truck on the road. Crazy.

Installed new-to-me RTT that I scored from a fellow Mudder. Georgia Traverse trip coming at the end of the month and this will be a huge improvement to my current car camping setup. Thanks @marcattack1992 !!

Replaced the factory stereo with a Kenwood unit. Nice to have Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, phone connectivity and a backup camera. Replaced the front and rear door speakers with 6.5” Alpines and added an Alpine amplifier. Had to enlarge the hole in the rear doors to fit the larger speakers. So much more sound. Not enough bass yet but I plan to mount a pair of Infinity 6x9s in the back where the grab handles are.

Where did you mount the rear camera?

New o-ring on the distributor (finally) much needed. I almost have myself convinced that once I get all these little leaks buttoned up I'll actually start working on rocker panel rust removal...

Love that truck! My first car was a yellow '77 just like that. The quad round headlight front end was the best looking front end ever on any of the Toyota pickups.
That exact grill was 75-78. The large cab pillar vent grille is 77-78. The earlier grills were about 1/3 that size.

I had a leak that looked to be the seal behind the neutral safety switch but found out it was the hoses leading to the heater core and the rear heater. @NLXTACY and @LandCruiserPhil were out of stock on complete kits. I was able to get the straight hose from O'Reilly. They have Gates radiator hoses on site. The other hose I sourced from Amazon, it is also a Gates hose too, the PN is 28467. I just had to cut it to length to work.

Some of the clamps where facing downward which made it a royal pain to get to since I do not have angled needle nose. Small needle nosed vice grips worked really well in their place. But I am pleased with the way it came out.

And yes the hose does not touch the valve cover.

Determined my knock is on the bottom, starting taking it apart to see what I find. Looks like the pans been off before. Factory is a bit better with the sealant yeah? Quite a bit of material came out at the end of drainage. Starting searching for info to rebuild a warn winch.
Contemplating a build thread continued as well. It would be slow going for sure.

Finally took the time to inspect my sector shaft splines which were fine, so went ahead and adjusted my drag link and for the first time in about two years have a straight steering wheel lol  also installed new PCV and hoses, old pcv definitely wasn't functioning properly.

I should do that someday.
