So many great photos on here and that means there were some great tips made as well. Now is the perfect time to write an article for Toyota Trails and feature some of your 80 series travels/trips. It's also a great way to earn a little extra spending cash. It's not life changing money, but it's enough for a nice takeout meal from a local restaurant. Support TLCA and support local! Added OEM light switches (from Wits'End ;) ) and another pair of lights to ARB.

Cleaned up and redid all wires from firewall, under dash and ran em thru fender with conduit for a clean install

When I was at school I had a part time job at Oreily Auto Parts. Luckily for me I am mostly on scholarship so most of that money went into my pocket and one night the bad idea of getting another land cruiser took over me and this time I wanted a 60 series.

I found one in Reno that looked really straight here on the Mud classifieds and was able to come to terms on the price with the seller and book my airline ticket over a month ago. Fast forward to Sunday and I was on my 10 person flight from Denver to Reno to drive this thing home. Besides some carb trouble intially from old gas it didn’t skip a beat from Reno Nevada to Colorado Springs. If I knew what times we would be living in now I probably would not have done it but I’m glad it happened the way it did. The mechanical feel of it is a total different experience then the 80 series and gives me a total new appreciation for the 80 and the 1FZ. The 80 is so solid at everything and I know it will cruise all day on the highway at 75 no problem and go just about anywhere on the trail I point it. The 60 enjoys strictly the right lane and rides like a go cart compared to my 80. But there is so much charm in it. The 60 is such a fun solo trip rig to sit in the right lane and look around. Also pretty neat that a 35 year old truck drove 1400 miles home over I-70 with no issues besides some carb hiccups. Gotta love a land cruiser

Well it seems like I'm going to have some time off..... dam virus anyway. I might as well start installing my Wits End Turbo.
LET THE FUN BEGIN :bounce::p:bounce2:

Is it bad that I'm a grown ass man working in a lucrative profession for over 15 years and some kid is living my dream instead of me?

Well last weekend I bought my ticket back into landcruiser life, a one way from NY to Detroit and a beautiful drive back home in this

20200315_105402.jpg

It's a 97 w 268 on the clock and picked it up for a steal at $2,700 that's her good side but I will be needing a d/s rear door and various other such componentry of course ;)
...hmmm projects this weekend r... oil change, tried changing the outer upper rear hatch handle, issues w ebay part-ordered correct part from cruiserparts hopefully here by next weekend. I painted my hubcaps because they were disgusting looking and I'm stuck in my garage because of Corona virus waiting for cooler parts to arrive!!!! Ahhh lol
Good luck to ya out there

Working on a swing out for the bike rack. The bumper I have has the stock cross-member, and then essentially two "wings" added on either side, the front edge of them has steel that runs to the frame as well, and receiver hitch holes on the sides, so three hitch holes all together, from which I have this add on swing out to be mounted from.

Time is short.

;)

Threw the front BP-51s on last night with some OME heavies. Expected install to suck, took ~3 hours. mostly fussing with the piggy back brackets and brake line relocation brackets (OME instructions with the fit kit are straight garbage).
Hopefully rears go on today, followed by my turbo this weekend if the last few parts come in.

You’re going to love them! So true about the majority of the time spent fussing around with the brackets.

Yeah! Not looking forward to the rears as my lower shock bolts look a bit gnarly. Praying my PB blaster got in there good!
Are you running them as well?
I wanted something nicer than monotubes that were adjustable and didn't want to wait for slinky stuff.
The BP's seem really really nicely made, though aren't a true 2.5.
Looking forward to running them through some harder stuff and see how they handle it once everything is bolted up.
Apparently a lot of 80s running em, but next to no reviews or mud members that post about them.

Yes sir! I put them on about a year ago but really only have a couple months experience with them since we started the pre-turbo rebuild right after installing. So far I really love them, huge improvement over the monotube L shocks I've always used. I went with them because I was already happy with my tried and true OME L shock / J spring setup but just wanted something adjustable, and the BP-51s are the same length specs as the L shocks so it was an easy swap. For me, this outweighed them not being a true 2.5 and being considered inferior (by many on here) to other bypass shocks. Right now I'm running them at 6/6 all the way around and they've impressed me more than I anticipated.

Nice! so you're running the longer length to match the Js?
I didn't want to go that high so have the shorter length shocks which i'm not stoked on, but figure its still a huge step in the right direction.
If i go higher, i'll sell the whole setup and move to longer shocks.

Correct, already had the J lift installed for some years now and have been working to get all of the geometry back to normal for that height so I didn’t want to replace the whole setup when everything has been working so well together already (call me lazy:flipoff2:).

FWIW - If I were building a truck from scratch and was in a buy-once-cry-once scenario then I would have gone with the stage 4 slinky. Seems like a really complete and well thought out package. I love my BP-51 setup though and have no regrets and continue to recommend it.
