We finally found a suitable stablemate for the 80.... the wife is happy now and my 35 year long itch has finally been scratched...

it's a pretty solid 79' HJ45 from CR w/ Ac and powersteering and a reasonable solid body and great frame. A couple of cool guys in Dallas are bringing in a few a month it seems and this one was avail and met my criteria of not being a fully restored trailer queen so we can actually use if for farm and home depot duty...

very excited - now have lots to learn about the diesel...

Todd source that for you?

Nice!! Thanks. It really doesn't look like it sticks out too far to me.

No. I could design one that sticks out less, but when you count fabrication time, design time, materials, etc, it was hard to turn this one down for 4 bills.

The rear bumper I'm going to have to do myself. I'm going to replace the rear cross member with a piece of 5"square tube for an air tank and make bolt-on ends.

I think I fixed whatever was causing my P0420 code but don't know how.

This morning I drove through about 100' of 10"-12" deep water. Not as slowly as I should have. Shortly thereafter the CEL light came on. Let it drip dry for a few hours and then cleared the code with the ultragauge. Have driven about 55 miles since clearing it and it has not come back. I searched but couldn't find any info connecting getting wet to a 0420 code. Is this a thing? Or should I expect the code to come back soon?

Well, finished the bumper update - cut and welded in a winch plate and gave it a coat of paint...

And, for bonus points, I modified a couple of Harbor Freight $9 tv mounts to hold a couple of 8" EV PA speakers I had lying around... now they can serve the inside of the garage like this:

And then swing around to pump tunes into the driveway when it's time to wash the rigs like this:

Took the dogs out for some boonie bashing. We ran into quite an aggressive feral horse. He was guarding his stud pile and wanted to play chicken. Needless to say he was not happy when I drove over his spot lol.

Out with the old. PHH is still giving me trouble with the innermost clamp, but I've got about half of the PHH out.

Also, drained the coolant from the radiator and block, because I'm switching from green to pink/red.

Next, up install new heater hoses and flush the coolant system with distilled water. Hopefully get some back flushes done too. I've got 18 gallons of distilled water.

Just spent two glorious weeks in Belize...

Had to do a ‘front end birf svc’ on a golf cart yesterday; so happy to have Joey’s parts diagram handy...

Did you add the adjustable arms to rotate pinion back down? Did it help with vibrations?
Ha! You opened the can. Here are the worms. The answer to your first question is yes. The answer regarding vibrations is obscured because we changed an extremely worn rear drive line at the same time we installed the adjustable arms. One or both solved the vibrations. But being forever a tinkering vandal, my husband decided we should experiment to measure how much misalignment can be present before vibrations are induced. So that’s what we did over the weekend. Adjust, measure, drive, repeat and then a little trail run as a self-reward for unnecessary experimenting.

Water in the fresh air port of the O2 sensor (yes there is a fresh air port) could cause incorrect readings. The front sensor activity would then be reduced enough to make the PCM condemn the catalyst. Hopefully, that's all it was.
