What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Hitting the west coast next week for a while, so Im checking and changing and wiring and had a mystery squeak pop up drove me crazy its was a large bolts that worked itself out as its directly out of my usual field of view inspection ritual superior control arm on driver caught it fixed it moved on. Installed a set og KC gravites made up some brackets, powder coated them and bolted up like factory to the front runner slimline 2 drive flange studs greased DS and went with new SS brakelines from low range as after 6yrs the Slees started fraying

not bad for a driveway on the atlantic with those awesome 45degrees 40MPH windy days like today.

LOL. Same here. I like to give some recognition to the suppliers here who have helped me get my truck to the statge it is now. I now get disappointed if there aren't at least 2 stickers in a new box. One goes on the cruiser and the other goes to my 10 year old daughters collection. She is also the the proud owner of a Jailbreak Overlander patch.

Good Stuff! Breakfast of Champions . My Guess is that most folks on here haven't had the pleasure of a pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwich on a kaiser roll.

With respect to the LX...

Tried to complete my rear diff swap last night and ended up crying "Uncle" for the evening. Old one came out fine, actuator swapped OK, but when trying to put the replacement one in I found out I am not as young as I used to be . That damn thing is heavy! After having it roll off the floor jack twice, a failed attempt to bench press it from resting on my chest (that was fun), I called it a night before I either hurt myself or the diff.

I'm surprised the old one (260K) hadn't grenaded yet. I could barely turn the pinion bearing by hand and the gear oil was full of a LOT of metal filings that weren't there two weeks and 500 miles ago when I changed the diff fluid. It was on borrowed time.

Today I will stop by Harbor Freight and pick up a transmission jack with the ability to tilt and swivel the supporting plate. They say an education costs money... this one is going to cost me $160 for a tranny jack. Onward and upward...

Finally got the beast out after being out of service all winter. Had to replace my battery isolator which was a pain. A couple of pics from the village...

Been there, but with a CJ7 5spd and transfercase removed in one piece, took me 2 days of wrestling it around to finally cave and go to HF and buy a tranny jack, floor jack was not cutting it. Better off spending the money = more time to enjoy riding the rig.

I did the old bench press the rear diff in a few months ago. I had it on my chest and could barely breathe before I pushed it up and into the axle. Tranny jack is well worth the money and possibly your life.

Got some super cheap $25 a peice shocks for the 80. Decided I'd give them a shot since my OME Nitrochargers had 80K miles on them. The OME's were definitely shot. The ride is so much nicer. Still not sure what I'm going to do with the front reservoirs, they dot rub the tires but they get real close

I parked downtown, while having drinks and dinner with my wife, get back to my 80 and a girl outside the bar smoking says to me, "I love your truck!" I smiled and thanked her and then she says, "is that a 4Runner?"

At least she admired a Toyota over the shiny new red Rubicon that was parked behind me.

Spent the weekend with my wife and two teenage boys covering about 500 miles of dirt. One of the most remote areas in the country. We were solo in my 80 and hardly saw another soul except when we made fuel stops. Perfect quiet weekend.

You can mount them on top of the coil buckets thats what I did

I have the front suspension completed... but I’ve compressed my rear springs just about as far as they go and it still won’t fit in there... about 3” too long. Any tips on how to get that sucker in there? Is it worth it to disconnect the sway bars and other linkage?

I’ve also realized that the cheap Rioby impact gun is a piece of junk. Keeps quitting on me when I put a lot of stress on it. (On a good note... maybe it’s time for air tools... )
