Finally got to replacing my TPS with OEM (new) replacement. Last time I went refurbished, still got 0120 code. Then replaced O2 sensors, still 0120. Now new TPS and so far no 0120 - fingers crossed. Also replaced passenger door lock actuator and driver's window motor. Next step replacing window runs..

I have the Milwaukee grinder at the powder coat shop, and it is very good. I have a Rigid set at home and they had a deal on 4.0 ah batteries and the grinder so I went for it. Both are brushless motors and are really good. If I was buying without already having some tools, I'd go Milwaukee but they really seem to be equals so far.
Metabo or Bosch for grinders ;)

Almost the longest spinning happiness generator swap known to man. I'm pretty sad about not being able to drive it yet.
The latest update changed the compressor cover and moved the wastegate actuator from being mounted on the front to the rear. This opened a :worms:
First, the actuator hit the heater line that runs along the block, no worries, tried to relocate it with a bit of gentle persuasion, cracked the bloody thing at the thermostat housing  OK, no worries, order a new one from partsouq (thanks @diby 2000 for the tip), and cut and shut it to the required length with a 90 to relocate the heater hose under the turbo and add the jic fitting I've converted the water feed to, easy enough job. Pulled manifold, swapped heater pipe (thanks to handy slide hammer for old pipe removal, refitted mani and test fit turbo.
Managed to strip one of the threads in the mani  Ordered a recoil kit for it, but thanks to the glut of public holidays we are suffering from, I'm not holding my breath about having it here before I go back to work, so the saga will more than likely drag on for another week :censor:

Question for the brain trust:

Would an over-greased driveshaft slip joint cause growling noises? I just had a shop (facepalm) replace all 4 ujoints. Good news, vibration is reduced (not gone), bad news I have a very pronounced growl on coast/decel and occasionally at slack idle or accel. Pretty sure the noise was there before, but definitely louder now. Maybe I can just hear it better without all the u-joint clatter :o

And on a personal note. I don't know wtf I'm supposed to do. I wanted to do these u-joints myself, but they've been sitting on the shelf for months because I haven't had any time off work, and if I ever get a half day, I'd rather spend it with the family than in the garage. But I paid a very steep price for the convenience of having a shop do this for me. Hard to justify shop labor on a truck this old and worthless :(

Remove the zerk for the slip joint and drive it around the block, reinstall. See if growl persists. This won't confirm that they overgreased the slip joints but if they did it will relieve the pressure.

If you want to confirm, you will have to loosen one end of each shaft and see if they can be compressed.

Had a fun little chain of events yesterday. First off I picked up a new Group31 battery to use an my primary battery. Deka Intimidator 9A31. Heard lots of good feedback on these so giving it a go.

Then the fun happened. On the drive home yesterday I had my window down (even though it was still chilly out) and I started hearing a loud flapping sound like the sound of a plastic grocery bag caught on something under the truck. I figured that's all it was but pulled off the highway just to check. When I stopped I noticed I was leaking fluid badly. Didn't take long to find the problem.

A belt had shredded was the first problem. taking a closer look it turns out that a small rock had been deflected and wedged into the groove of the pulley (total fluke right?) and the rock is what caused the belt to come apart. The best wrapped itself around the fan clutch shaft and was whipping around (flapping noise) and the flailing cut one of the coolant lines on the lower radiator for the heater. The leaking fluid was coolant.

Couple of fortunate things. First off, had I not had my window down I wouldn't have heard it and just kept driving and possibly lost all cooling. Secondly, I had just purchased new belts a couple days ago to go in the parts box for Cruise Moab next week. My son drove to where I was with the new belts and we picked up a new hose. Changing belts in a parking lot is always fun, right? Actually, what could have been much worse ended up a pretty simple fix. Now all new belts and a new hose. :)

Yes, that could have ended MUCH worse.

I had mine snap BOTH belts (they were the aftermarket cogged belts) after a WOT entrance (with the AC on) onto the interstate. They wrapped around the water pump and stopped it dead. The temp skyrocketed quickly and exploded the top tank on the radiator. That one was not a side of the road fix.......

What are the odds of a rock stuck there though.........pretty wild!

Nice battery! With two amplifiers Kicker 1600.1 and Kicker Q1000.5 needs lots of juice! This is what I have been using in last three vehicles with amplifiers. Jump starts cars immediately!!!

I would say it's possible. Or maybe they installed the shaft in phase instead of out of phase. Or whichever way it is supposed to be.

FWIW, I overfilled my sip joint and couldn't get it to compress enough to install. That's when I dropped it on my face and broken my tooth. Fun times. Removed the zerk and compressed the grease out and it compressed enough to go it.

Really really high when you are missing the rock guard above the stabilizer
Meh. Not that high. I removed that stone guard on my last 80 and ran without it for more than a decade. This truck has never had one while I've owned it with 50K miles. I highly doubt it will happen again. It could but I doubt it.

Switched out hood shocks again. Lasted 5 years.

I would say they are more for the trail/crawler rigs than a roo/deer DD rig

I'm still a fan of a heavier bumper (ARB) for teenagers that drive my truck...Or drive into my truck.

My son reported that the other day in the HS parking lot a kid was smoking his tires and let off the brakes too soon. He rear ended the car in from of him, and the car in front of that one, and the car in front of that one. Give me armor until my kids stop driving my cars. Then I probably need it for me. I drive like an idiot sometimes too, I guess.

Is she married? You need to introduce her to Mud! Maybe @Aloha Jen and her can be friends!
Get her on here! The forum needs more female representation, hopefully she will last longer then the other ladies that get on here then disappear after a couple months! I don't want to mention any names....but why you guys scaring away all the lady LC owners??

Here's my 80 as of yesterday, soaking up some vitamin D.
