While doing an Internet search for my radiator support seal installation question yesterday I stumbled on an easy FJ60 upgrade I was completely unaware of - the FJ62 front door jamb moulding (both sides of vehicle) has additional weatherstripping not used on the FJ60s. Sure enough, I went out last night to take a look at my '89 FJ62 and '86 FJ60 parked side by side in the driveway - confirmed. I've owned my '84 FJ60 since new and my '89 FJ62 for almost 15 years and never noticed a difference.

Because the FJ62 is the donor for my 3FE transplant into my '86 FJ60 project, that's one more thing to swap over. It seems like most everything will be moved over - axles, wiring harness, power mirrors/windows/door looks, fuel system, exhaust system, fuel door release cable, power steering gearbox, steering column, transfer case, windshield wiper motor/linkage, emissions, brakes, dashboard, door cards, rear cargo panels, rear seat belts, etc. No wonder it's taking me forever to complete my project :). But one way to look at it - I'll pretty much know the FJ60 and FJ62 inside out when I'm finally done.

Pics to describe?

Old rearview mirror was crap, flaking plastic and separating mirror. Dad drives a RAV4 and I was riding with him awhile ago and got the notion that his mirror would fit the ol' 60. Tried it and sure enough.
So I finally got down to the local junk yard and found one, but out of a camry or corolla or something like that. Color even matches. It sits a little higher but works well enough. Grand total: 5 big ones.

We ought to have a separate FAQ thread on parts from other vehicles that git the 60 Series. Such as this, brake calipers, seats, belts, etc

First time driving around town since repaired crank shaft key way. I sure enjoy driving that vehicle. I need to replace a leaf spring bushing; never done that before...but hey....it's running.

FJ62's are just superior in every way besides the vacuum shift and automatic...

I forgot to mention I'm installing a new H55f and converting the vacuum transfer mechanism to manual, and using the two FJ62 transfer rear case switches to illuminate new "N" and "L4" indicator lights in the dash, in the position formerly occupied by the front drive engagment button. Pictures forthcoming - I hope to check the functionality of the lights now that I've reinstalled the wiring harness.

You may have covered this under "etc." use the 62 speedo cable because it will give you a little extra jiggling around when hooking it up behind the instrument cluster.

Until the EFI main relay dies - NLA
Until the FPR dies
Until the Circuit Opening Relay dies
Until the fuel pump dies

But other than that....

Actually I have found the 3FE + associated stuffs to be quite reliable. The one I transplanted into the 60 has a good 300k miles on it along with most of the supporting electronics.

Hey!.... I think the fuel pump is still available new at least.:D

Thanks for the tip, I just have to remember which is which - for some things it's hard to tell the difference at glance. At least at my advanced age I still know the carburetor goes by the wayside for my build :).

The longer one... It's to account for the longer automatic transmission.

 Every vehicle has parts which will strand them.

you can omit the relays, those are easily replaceable. diaphrams will be more difficult,,,

Are we seriously still talking about hanging the fuel cap on the door?
I find sticking it in my pocket works best. If its on me then I can't lose it.
