I’ve been combing the forum for parts I need to replace on my 60 and coming across possible oem upgrades is kind of random. So I just wanted to possibly start a thread on OEM later model year upgrade parts for the FJ60 that are either a bolt on or very minor modification to make work as reliable or better.

There is one thread that I found that touches on this idea, but turns into more of a cross over into other manufacturer parts that will work:

A couple of note from there:

Rear Side Marker Lights on an FJ60 are the same as a mid 80’s Camry Sedan (Designated V10) [CMD82 – 7/29/2009]

Late 90’s early 2000’s Corolla Solenoids that are located in the Air Filter Box work in a FJ62. The wiring plug and mounting point are the same, but the direction of the pipes are different [MangoMan – 7/31/2009]

-or 1988 Toyota Pickup with 22R Engine: [Randy88FJ62 – 8/6/2009]

Writeup: 1988 FJ62 4WD Solenoid fix for $17.77

1974-79 Corolla Wagon (2nd Generation) rear license plate light/trim for 60/62 series [Tofudebeest – 8/4/2009] [saucebox – 1/24/2010]

1996-99 4Runner Front Wiper Arms (bolt on Upgrade) [FJ60Seth – 12/24/2013, crediting Tucson_Sailors]

Dome light Covers from 2nd Generation 4Runners for front compartment light 60/62
[SteveH – 7/30/2015]

-also 90’s body style Camrys and pickups (whole dome light assembly) [Ridge Runner – 7/30/2015]

From my searches:

FJ80 Steering box is a bolt on upgrade (with a little fender trimming)

Along with 1975 Toyota Corolla 1.2L Universal Joints for the Steering Column

And

A 105 Series Sector Shaft is a upgrade to the FJ80 Steering box Sector Shaft

One in the Sticky’s:

4Runner calipers (preferably ’93) with T-100 Master cylinder for a front Brake upgrade
(possibly need slightly longer brake lines)

Hopefully this thread can gain a collection of oem upgrades for the 60/62 series that exist here and there in the countless side discussions of other threads.

It would be nice to state what the upgrade is, then if it was found somewhere, a link to where it was discussed for a little background for those looking for more information on the subject or something to back it up.

Sorry if I've missed another thread covering this topic

Thanks

70 series mirrors fit, but leave a slight gap between the base and body. Depends on how anal you are about that sort of thing. I believe trail-tailor is working on a gasket to fix that.

FJ62 front door jamb mouldings have extra weatherstripping to better seal the openings (upper part of door openings) - direct fit to FJ60s.

Mirrors from many 90's era Toyotas bolt up but are a little shorter. Example here is from a 99 RAV4.

I wonder if the shorter and thicker arm is better at reducing vibrations? The original relied on a little rubber cushion against the window.

I only drove it a day or two before going down for battery problems. But it did seem less jiggly to me. Will be getting back on the road next week.

Mid 90s 4runner wiper arms are a direct swap and allow you to run modern style blades without adapters.
80 series rear wiper arm is also an upgrade.
So, I can do this mod on the 60?

Yep, the front wiper arms (get both from left side) are 85221-35080, and the cover is 85192-12800. I haven't ordered the rear 80-Series wiper yet.

Here's a photo from another thread of the 80-Series rear wiper arm with part number:

Some off the top of my head:

-80 series rear view mirror, nearly identical and had the set screw on the back to keep it from flopping around, will need the mount cover from the 80
-Toyota truck and I believe corolla or camry vacuum actuators to fix fj62 4wd (search $17.77 fix thread)
-the 70 series visors work well, there was a recent thread
-70 series radiator reserve tank (16470-17010) and BRACKET, RADIATOR RESERVE TANK (16611-17011) are great way to keep things clean when adding a second battery
-70 series window felts

What I’ve really be searching for is an easy and cost effective alternative for the complete power attenna assembly. Mine was converted to manual at some point.
