hey guys i have a very damp front passenger side carpet and a slightly wet rear passenger side carpet .....any ideas?

We need more info like what weather conditions, where do you live(i.e is it humid in your area) and when did this start happening/has it happened before.

i live on the west coast of bc canada....and i have cooper STT's 285/75/16 i was wondering maybe they are kicking up water at my door and its seeping in side? or maybe the drains are plugged on the one side of the truck or the door seals are fu bared?

I would say it sounds more like a door leak (weather stripping) or clogged sunroof drains. Do you have any dampness in the head liner, A pillars, etc?

If you do that may be your issue...if not make sure all your windows are up...I have seen folks leave their rear windows down a hair and never realize it.

Check your sunroof weather stripping as well.

Cheers.

Check your air con drain.

As for the front pass side foot area, I just went through that, and have narrowed it down to the seal around the windshield. The highest wet point I could find was at the lower corner of the windsheld, just about where the dash makes it so you can't see the seal anymore. It was then running down the door opening and soaking the carpet. Have yet to get it fixed, so I'm only pretty sure this was the problem. Sunroof drains was the first thing I checked, and they were clear.

Good luck, water leaks are always a PITA to find.

This may not apply to your 80, but on my 62, the old hood to firewall seal let water run down the firewall and behind the AC line grommet/seal to the firewall into the passenger footwell.
(Similar thing on the driver side, water got through the brake booster to firewall gasket.)
I originally thought it was a winshield seal, too.

I finally found the leaks by leaving a garden hose run a torrent of water over the roof, down the windshield, onto the cowl/hood, and held a flashlight under the dash on both sides so I could see the water flow.

One way that I was able to narrow down where the water wasn't coming from was by peeling back the plastic trim at the rocker panel and the front kick panel ahead of the door so I could pull up some carpet, then I felt around to see how high up the wetness went on the underlay. It was dry at the front, the back by the seat, and the tranny tunnel area, so I knew it was coming in from around the door area. It was raining, so then I saw the small wet area down the side of the door opening, and followed it up. Bingo.

i have the same prob in my 80, i have attributed it to the sunroof glass seal, but that was just me, good way to test is use a garden hose on low and hold over any suspected areas, like different parts of the windsheild and all 4 corners of the sunroof

x2 on the leaky windshield -- try shoving a napkin or paper towel in the lower corner of the windshield the next time it rains -- if it's wet, you know it's a windshield leak...if not, you've removed 1 possibility from the list.

Mine started leaking right after replacing the windshield. Replaced it again same leak ended up putting sealent all the way around under the rubber once the windshield was reinstalled. The gaskets get old and must be perfect to seal properly. I will go with a new gasket next time.

Mine was definitely the sunroof drain. I wet carpets in front, middle and back. You can clean them out by putting an air gun into the hole and blowing hard. Good luck.

I have the same issue. I don't think the back gets wet though, just the front passenger carpet.

I had the windshield replaced a year ago for $100. I think I got what I paid for, a windshield that's not water tight around the edges.

hmmm yeah thanks guys for the ideas i have sourced out that its the bottom right corner of the windsheild that is leaking so im taking it to a glass shop tomorrow and they are gonna check it out for free to make sure .......but i will also try to check the ac thingy or whatever....but i jsut dont know where that is ?

woooo-hoooo!

okay...so what do we win?

dano, so what was the outcome? I am trying to track down the same issue.

Same Issue

I have the same windshield leak issue on my 80 right now. They replaced the windshield two weeks ago and said they would put a new gasket in as well. It's still leaking. And when I checked it out...they re-used the old gasket. They are going to come back out and replace the gasket this time, so I'll let you know if it fixes the problem with just the new gasket.

BTT-I'm having the same windshield problem.
They replaced the gasket with a CDAN one, to no avail. The most frustrating part about this is that the original ws had started leaking and I was hoping that a new ws and gasket would fix the problem.

So after reading this thread and others, I am finding no answer as why there is damp area on the drivers side rear passenger area. The spot is about 4 inches long and 2inches wide on the carpet right before the door under the corner of the mat.

Thank you in advance!!
