Both rack boots look like this....



The LC drives fine and seems tight. So what am I looking at here? Is it time for a new r&p?

Mine looked that way for 2000 miles. Still on the same rack.

Looks like mine @ 144k and PS fluid level rarely if ever changes and no problems with alignment or otherwise

same with mine. I see a drip every couple months on ground - I just keep watch on the fluid level and top off when needed.

Thanks for the reassurance. Anyone tried the Lucas power steering stop leak?

The Toyota dealership tech said I had the same problem. He said is was an "Urgent" repair. The PS fluid level hasn't changed in 1.5 months so I can't imagine how "Urgent" it really is. I'm just going to keep an eye on it.

I have not tried Lucas, but I did email them. They said it was safe to use in the system so long as it didn't exceed 20% of system fluid capacity. I've had good luck with it in other vehicles.

I have used it in the past on other vehicles with good results. Just pull enough of the old out with a turkey baster or fluid extractor. Then put in the Lucas. If its not very low and you just top it off, you wont get enough Lucas in the system to make a difference.
