Went Head to Head with a Mercedes S550...

I recently trashed my stock bumper cover, body shop wants around $850 for a replacement w hardware, painted and installed. Since I can (hopefully) install an aftermarket bumper myself, the difference isnt really that much.

Just returned from the adjuster with the repair estimate in hand. Total cost of repair...$1476.

BS you say? I agree. Adjuster says he can only write for "what he sees" and that the supplement will take care of the rest. While I'm confident the truck will be repaired properly and to my satisfaction, I'm not so confident there's much room for any additional goodies.

I wouldn't be surprised if that "supplement" turns out to be more than the original estimate ... :whoops:

Where did you go for the quote? I went to a Toyota dealership, where the guy had the full parts breakdowns on his computer. So we could look at what he could not "see". This is one of those times where a mega dealership with their own body shop and offices for all the major insurance companies is a good deal.

Similar scenario this past summer with our 470. Wife killed a civic upon impact. Upon inspection, Allstate adjuster claimed ~$1500. After it was brought it to the bodyshop and torn down the shop charged $3700. Both headlights, front grill, one foglight, bumper cover, impact bar, supports, were broken and a few other misc things that added up quickly. The DS fender was damaged too, but the shop just bent it back and applied clear coat. PS fender and hood were not damaged. We only paid our deductible.

I took it to one of the GEICO drive-in inspection stations. I wasn't given the option to take it to a dealership or anywhere of my choosing for the initial repair estimate. In fact, I've never had that option with any of my past accidents. It's always been the case where either I drive it to one of their inspection stations, or one of their adjusters comes to me. Maybe the laws are different in MA? I do have the option to repair the car wherever I want, though.

Yeah, that's what I'm expecting when I take the car to my bodyshop and they start peeling away the layers. I can already see items that will need to be replaced simply by bending down and looking under the truck. The adjuster did no such thing and didn't even include the turn signal light in his repair estimate even after I pointed out the mounting tab had snapped and it was just dangling by the wires. Just as long as everything gets fixed in the end, I'll be satisfied.

So I guess no aftermarket bumper from this accident? Oh well :frown:

Not necessarily. I'm looking into aftermarket bumper options and the TJM T3 Classique has caught my eye. Just have to decide if I want to shell out the extra $$ for it. Officially found out today that I am more than 50% liable for the accident so I am out my $500 deductible. Will also likely see an insurance surcharge coming down the line too. Been a :censor: week so I might just suck it up and give in to retail therapy:p
