Lads & Lassies,

I have an odd issue, can't find similar issues on this board so here it goes. My rig has been out of pocket for sometime, I recently did a lot of maintenance and upgraded some electrical goodies. Today, I put both of the batteries back in and was going to go for a little drive to see if my repairs are good to go. I released the parking brake and it took off backwards without me touching the shifter...On the dash, everything is shifted down one - shifter is in park but transmission is in reverse. Obviously it does not have a Park and shifter linkage appears to be in order but I am not a transmission expert. Few years ago, I had the infamous "stuck in Park" goodness and now this. Car starts because it thinks it is in park and it releases the key but it does not go past Reverse on the dash.

I just drove it for an extended period of time, no other issues of any kind. Shifts buttery smooth as it did prior to this foolery. Aside from dash saying D but the shifter is in Reverse, all is peaches.

Hhmm, not an expert. But I would first check all mechanics... are all levers and so on in the right place, is any cable or whatever in the right place? Does can you "manually" shift at the transmission, .... all these things.

Any chance you disconnected something transmission/ shifter related and put it in slightly wrong...?!?

I was under there the moment it started happening. I had my wife shift it up and down and I did not notice anything out of whack at all.
