Wow, that looks.....flat.
When it gets a bit warmer, there won't be a vehicle in that picture - unless it's a floater. 
so its like a "controled" stave?

No, the locals call it 'Peg'. Not sure what that means, but that portion of the Fraser is accessed from Fairfield Island, down Kent street and head towards the river.
I haven't been to Stave in a long time, but I don't think I'd refer to it as controlled. Lots and lots of quads and bikes, not too many 4x4's, at least that day anyways.
Its "Peg Leg" sand bar. Its an absolute zoo when the springs are running good. Sometimes people chance getting across to the bar when the iver is running higher. Sometimes they make and sometimes they don't.
