Brake cleaner and Welding warning!

I posted this on mud but I thought I would post it here also! We all should be careful with brake cleaner! I would hate to see any friends and members get sick!!

Sorry but what a dumbass. Waiting 9 days to go to the hospital when he knew the possible problems within 5 minutes is beyond dumb.

+1
Total idiot. He had plenty of warning signs that he had been poisoned. Listen to your body!

Thanks for posting this article.

I am a bit more sympathetic as I can see myself doing this very same thing. I probably wouldn't wait as long with those symptoms, especially pissing anything but normal urine, but we have all been there!

I have spilled gasoline on my hands and breathed the fumes more than I should. I have routinely welded, hovering over the fumes, without my breathing mask (yes, its rated for organic gases). I have also mixed various cleaners when in a rush, just like the dude in the article. I have plucked wire wheel debris from my shirts, jeans and skin.....knowing that my eye protection is inadequate. In short, when trying to complete a project I take more risks to conserve time...thinking that I can handle the risk.

That's my full disclosure and I am sure others are the same way. Now I know that heating up brake cleaner is stupid dumb....and can kill you quickly.

I'm glad I read this. I could see myself doing something along these lines. I've been known to do dumb stuff like weld galvanized steel without a respirator. I'm slightly wiser these days.

I do dumb stuff too. my comment was more about this jackass not going to the hospital. This guy obviously has tough-guy syndrome and was too cool to see a doctor even as his body was melting down for well over a week. Darwin award for that guy

Thanks for posting that Pat. I imagine something like this will probably be the end of me......... I nearly went down from regular old shower cleaner not too long ago, but I come pre-loaded with half his long term problems.

I knew there was a reason that I weld with CO2 :)

But CO2 has its dangers, it is an oxygen displacer. I was welding in a trunk once and almost passed out because the 02 in the trunk had been displaced by the CO2.

I wont mention the small incident under Trey's truck while doing his SAS either :)
