Welding spring hangers = drop gas tank?

Helping someone swap the rear springs on his early Tacoma this weekend with AllPro 3" springs. Instructions say we have to add new front hangers 2" forward of the old ones:

Are we gonna have to drop the gas tank to fully weld the driver's side one on? Seems like we will, but I don't have the new hangers yet.

I've never done this, but if you plug weld the hanger to the frame from beneath, and get a decent weld with the outer edge, I believe it would be fine... Maybe drill and bolt as well if you have enough room to do that without dropping the tank...

See if you can borrow a good welding blanet before dropping the tank

Project is done. Yes, we dropped the tank. AND we put a blanket over it.
