Ever met an old welder?

Me neither.

Me neither.

I know a number of them…

Obviously, there’s a big difference between a production welder being exposed to this stuff daily and people doing some weekend welding here and there.

This is especially true of the type of welding the guys they studied do. Those guys burn spool after spool of wire. I'm sure eventually the answer (like the article mentions) will be to use wire with less manganese.

And probably that most of the production welding like that is being done robotically.

What do you fellas think is old? I've been welding for almost 38 years now with no lung issues. I have always taken precautions when welding certain materials and use lacquer thiner to prep/clean. Educating yourself on the the hazards is paramount. Using a plasma in poorly ventilated area is just as bad guys. FWIW, I can still run a 8 minute mile at 53.
Turn and burn.

I'm not sure about the equipment manufacturers, but the ship yards are still doing it the old fashioned way (dual sheild flux core).

53 isn't old.

I’m only a couple years behind you, but due to a bum knee and arthritis I’d be WAAAAAY behind you on that mile… :barefoot:
