I came into my wifes '98 100 as she got a new car and I am taking this and getting rid of my 80. Anyway I searched and could not find it so I will ask. Any good ideas for reducing the weight on these rigs before adding the weight of the bumpers and larger lift and tires? I do not want to gut the rig it still needs to be nice to take people in for my job. 3rd row seats are out any other good ideas?

Just out of curiosity, how much do the running boards weigh? I wonder if you'd benefit more from increased aerodynamics (aka less drag) or just the reduced weight after they're gone...

well being right in the path of your tires I can't imagine too much increased aerodynamics... and doesn't keeping things closer to the ground help with windflow?

You might be right, but just seeing what the general consensus was on the topic. If I were to remove the running boards, it would be done for aesthetics and little else.

They'd only help if you also had a front air dam. The idea of a skirt kit is to create a low pressure area under the vehicle to kind of suck it to the ground like downforce.

The running boards probably weight 20-30lbs each. They're not light but they're not heavy. They do tend to collect pounds of dirt. Sliders weigh about 60lbs per side.

True that! Mine are fully caked with mud/snow right now.
