ok im wondering if my water pump is going out or if i just need to flush this thing real bad.

recently noticed that im overheating when sitting to long. its because water is not circulating unless i am at at least 1200 rpms. i know because my heater stops blowing heat when it goes below this. so im wondering could i just be clogging? or is the waterpump getting weak?

Your water pump does not really get weak, If sounds like you are low on water or have a thermostat problem.Your radiator could be plugged as well and when you raise the rpms you are forcing the water through. But I would check the thermostat first, if any thing take it out and try it that way for a while you won't need the heat soon anyway. You are supposted to change the thermostat and flush the coolant once a year anyway. Just some Ideas...Ben

I think I would do a really good flush and change the thermostat. Then re-evaluate.

First shot : check water level in radiator ( plugged t'stat would not cause heater to go cold at idle...), not just recovery bucket. bucket can have lots & radiator be low...pin hole leak in radiator allows air in while cooling rather than suck water from bucket.

thaks guys. i forgot i made this thread:doh: thermostat is new changed it in the middle of winter (yes is rightside up,yes remembered upper gasket, yes oem) do believe its just clogged and needs a good flush. the water level is high. was just curious if the pump can weaken like bad bearing or something but since not, i thank you all.

I think you would hear a bad bearing or you could wobble it by grabbing the fan and test it that way (with the ENGINE OFF :flipoff2: ). Still could be your theromostat, maybe its defective. I know the one I put in last spring in my 60 is sticking occasionally (great, and we are going wheeling this weekend).

Fixed it for you :D

if you have ever changed a water pump on a 60 series cruiser, you will find every possibility before you want to do that job.
True story: the pump went out on our 60 so I started at it and took our 62 to work the next day.................that pump went out on it!! $%#* ....so having two down I had to spend all afternoon and evening replacing it...Not fun !! But thought after doing a 60 the day before.....how hard could it be with fresh and warmed skills...that bastard was even harder.............
