doing the pump this saturday, since its no longer dripping, but hemmoraging
now, about a gallon a day.
got new OEM pump, all the hoses that i have not replaced in the last few months. gaskets, and t-stat.
i know how to do it, but is there any trick that might help me get it done faster, since it gonna be, like 40 degrees outside?

Did mine few months ago ( 2nd pump in 20 years...)
Don't have hints: it's straight forward, time consuming ( about 4 hr from start to put last tool away)

not many tricks are needed for this.
to access, you will need to remove the fan clutch, fan and radiator shroud. It helps to unbolt them all, and lift them out together.

while you are at it, replace the belts also.
make sure you know the torque requirements for the water pump bolts.
the gasket does not need any grease.
removal of the old gasket can be a real pain, but is essential. a gasket scraper will be of real help, but razor blades will do.
If you still have the factory hose clamps on, replace them too with high quality clamps.
re-tighten the 4 fan clutch nuts after a few hours of driving.

that's all I can think of...
not a hard job, but estimate a few hours.
 
anyone know the torque for the pump bolts?
 
I'm pretty sure that the torque for the water pump bolts is 27 ft/lbs. Someone told me that the haynes manual tells the value, and 27 ft/lbs has been confirmed by others on the board.

possible, someone check on the 2F FSM please. my ratings come from the 2H manual.
The 3B manual says 18 ft/pd, so there seem to be differences, interesting.
 
use a belt tensioning gauge to re-tension your belts during assembly...the Kricket sold through Napa for less than $20 works well....otherwise you run the risk of overtightening the belt and ruining your new pump--yes, I've BTDT and now use the belt gauge religiously ;)

the black Toyota gasket sealer kicks arse over Permatex and will ensure you get a tight, drip free seal even in the cold weather of your install. some local Toyota mechanics use this in lieu of a gasket when installing oil pans so rest assured that it really seals...
