Any FJ80 guys got any recomendations for what to use instead of the studs at that connect the water pump to the block. In my replacing of my water pump my studs have gotten messed up. I am to the point of putting everything back together but need bolts or replacement studs.

The bolt got messed up for me. all of the studs came out when I loosened them. I double nutted them to tighten them back to the block. I only put one in to align the pump and screwed the rest in like bolts with the double nuts and then would break the outer nut off and tighten the remaining one. For the bolt I couldn't find one the right in town. I had to cut a longer one down and rethread it.

Two of my studs didn't come out so I got a stud remover to pull them because I wasn't having any luck with the double nut method. As a side note the stud remover worked great if I had not gotten a little overzealous putting them back in. I also messed up the same bolt the Matt did. Anyway called around local and nobody has them. So I will just stay in holding pattern and order new ones Monday.

Also should add bought the water pump from Lowe Toyota in Warner Robbins and they offer the Mud discount. The parts contact is Sam Stewart.

Matt did you have any trouble threading the bolt that you got? I am at the point on my search where I buy a longer bolt and thread the other end to make the studs.

no, but I wasn't starting new threads, just basically extending the existing threads. You can't get the studs from the dealer?

Stud is discontinued and I wasn't having any luck find a replacement stud. I found some at cruiser parts.net so I've ordered them from there. I was going to make some using grade 8 bolts if I didn't find any but I wasn't sure how hard it would be to thread the shank end of the bolt.

So my ex found studs at Cruierparts.net (long story) and they finally came in (typical) and my LC now lives again. I will agree with Matt that this is a @#$%^&. It's not a hard replacement there is just a ton of stuff to take off and small spaces to work in. For what it's worth the water pump that came off was Toyota and seems to still be in working order. I think the water pump seal let go and at that point why not replace everything? I love my LC but why the hell couldn't Mr.Toyota make these things for my fat, stubby hands?

I will say that for me beyond my own stupidity and messing up the threads on my studs was removing and replacing the fan.

I didn't want to deal with Cruiserparts after my last experience with them so they never crossed my mind is the short story. Yes I am back in the LC. I think my lower hose has now developed a leak so I will be replacing both this weekend but other than that everything went smooth. I know my clamps are tight because I only undid the one at the water pump but after a few days of driving I have noticed dripping from that side of the engine bay.

Maybe one day I will tackle all the various oil leaks but I don't see that happening anytime in the near future.
