I am in the process of purchasing an '01 LX470 with 38K miles. We had some heavy rain overnight and I discovered soaked carpet on the passenger side of the cargo area. I have pulled the carpet back (I removed the 3rd row seats to clean) and pulled the bottom plastic trim out. There is evidence of the leak (water) all over the electronics and the rear air box. I have searched the forum but it seems that most of everyone's leaks originated from the third brake light. I am certain mine is not from there.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Spencer

Check the gaskets for the electronics into the top hatch, I found mine had become unseated. You could also see the marks for the drips on the plastic trim. You can see it when the hatch is fully open.

Thanks for the reply pkhart! After further inspection, it appears that the water is dripping in from the trim piece under the rear window that vent (between C and D pillars).

Is it difficult to remove the rear window in order to remove the black plastic trim piece underneath? How hard is it to remove that trim piece?

Thanks again,
Spencer

could also be roof bars mounting bolt holes. If they are loose or worn (vibration) paper gaskets, then water can creep in there and run down inside panels to eventually flood the floor.

3M 5200 Fast Cure is a good Marine Adhesive Sealant... you can get it in small toothpaste size tubes in West Marine....If it is your rack you might consider this.

also check if water is being held between gasket and rear liftgate on the lower gasket.....goes along bottom of door lift gate. you can see it in my build thread recently.

mine started rusting under there and had wet spot on passenger side. appears the gasket was not as pliable as before and the glued corners on each end were not sealing...so letting heavy rain run down sides and shoot between gasket and doors and eventually into rear.

if it does it any more (none in a month) then will do the rear brake light fix....
