My wife’s daily driver, 2015 with 90k on the clock. The 6 year 100k mile platinum warranty expires the first week of August. I just got the “flashing 4lo, CEL, and Trac Off” lights come on, also have an intermittent failing passenger lock. Scheduled an appointment at the dealer for the end of this week. Anything specific I should ask the dealer to check out for the first and last visit l get under warranty???

p.s. I told my wife I was bringing the car to the dealer to have the light checked and she said, Aren’t you glad I got the extended warranty. I reminded her it was $2600 and we still haven’t actually used it, so no!

Pay an independent cruiser shop to do a thorough PPI and take the findings to the dealer. I did that with a different marquee and had good results.

Specific inspection items:
  • Is the radiator developing the hairline crack? (You may have to check this yourself, most dealers don't seem to know about this)
  • Any pink residue from the water pump
  • General suspension check
  • Any leaks you're not aware of
The VSA won't cover preventative stuff though. It's difficult to get it to cover a radiator which has the crack developing until it actually blows. Ditto for any other components.

I could take a guess but you'll need a code reader to determine what that error means. Different combinations of flashing lights indicate which system had the issue, but even still you (or the dealer) will likely need the code reader to determine the actual issue. Could be as simple as a loose gas cap, or could be more expensive.

I was about to post up a new thread until I found this one.
I'm at 99,300 and here's a list I typed up for my service advisor:

1) front headlights vibrate. AFS still works great, but I can see the headlights vibrate at night.
2) engine idle pully needs to be replaced (or maybe tensioner). I have a video of it…
3) radiator has a hairline crack in it. I know there’s a TSB out there about it along with a redesigned radiator, but not sure if a crack is covered under warranty or if it has to explode.
4) there’s a stored error code regarding the fuel charcoal canister
5) driver’s side Rear wheel has a consistent clicking sound…but only when loaded up with gear. Bad wheel bearing?
6) struts on rear hatch need to be replaced.

My platinum extended as more than paid for itself with a new AC/blower assembly to fix the recirc door, a new front CV, and some other minor stuff. I like the idea of getting an Indy to perform a PPI. Other things I need to check are coolant valley leak and seepage around water pump.

Anyone have other ideas?

I have a 2013 but yeah #1 is true for me too. I understand this is "normal". I think it has something to do with the way they adjust/mount.

Assuming you have the Toyota Platinum VSA like I did, the radiator won't be covered unless it's actually leaking. That said when I opened my radiator cap I dripped some coolant on top of my radiator, and it dried with a few pink crusty spots. My dealer ended up replacing mine as the tech said "it appears to be leaking". I didn't argue. If you do the radiator, do new hoses too. It's IMO not worth doing the thermostat, water pump, etc unless you have signs of the water pump leaking because it gives you plenty of notice, but your call on that one.

I had my idler and tensioner replaced. One of them was squeaking. I couldn't tell which one. They're not that hard for a shop to access so whether you do both now or just the one that's making noise is up to you.

Don't clear any codes, make sure the dealer reads them and records them. They may say the charcoal canister was due to overfilling or was some sort of transient error code, but if they clear it and the issue reoccurs you reported it under warranty and it should get replaced under warranty even if it reoccurs 6 months from now.

Can't speak to the clicking sound but it could be a wheel bearing. How much gear do you have to load before you hear it? I recommend a set of chassis ears which can allow you to isolate where the noise may be coming from and can be used while you're driving.

I'd definitely have a shop do a close examination for any leaks (like the valley plate) as well as suspension components (ball joints, tie rods, KDSS bushings). I'd check the steering rack and any other items which don't typically fail but can get expensive. If you've ever had the flashing CDL light on cold start, I'd at least tell the dealer you're occasionally experiencing that so it's on record.

So how many of these items are covered under the standard drivetrain warranty? Mine was extended to 120K by my dealer when we bought?

I'm not sure of the fine print, but drivetrain is usually engine/Trans... "things that don't have oil or lube touching them" - pullies, wheel bearings, etc.
I have the platinum extended warranty, which is more similar to "bumper to bumper". This is why my AC blower, hatch struts are covered.
