well i got my old m10000 installed in the arb but realized i have lost the piece of paper where i wrote down where the pos/neg cables go. I believe the neg goes to the lone bolt on the front of the armature case, and the pos goes to the terminal with the white wire inside the solinoid box. if anyone can verify that would be really great. also should the neg cable go to the engine ground or to the neg battery terminal? I am assuming you ground it right to the block.

incidentily, if the negative cable does go on that bolt then it is a good idea to attach it before you install the winch on the bumper :rolleyes:

also, it is possible to install an m10000 on an arb without removing the arb. you just use a couple of ratchet straps and gently bring it in from the bottom.

See this diagram of my system; keep in mind that this diagram is electrically correct, but not as wired.

http://homepage.mac.com/dfmorse/BattProj2/page12.html

The positive from the battery goes where the WHITE lead is on the solenoid pack.

The neg lead (black) will go from the neg battery lead to the ground terminal on the winch. The other terminals are marked as F! & F2 [field terminals].

You can install from below with help from ratchet straps and run your wires later. (It helps to have two people). Keep in mind that if you do not wire the field leads correctly, the winch will run backward with-respect-to the hand control unit. Not a problem; just reverse leads to F1...F2.

It is prefered to run the ground (of the winch) to the battery neg; however, in a pinch u can ground to block ... keep in mind that u want max battery voltage across the winch when u need to use it.

thanks. that makes perfect sense. i wonder what does that bolt on the other side of the armature case do?

If memory serves, the ground is a sort of lone stud opposite of the three main studs; labled "A", Armature; "F1", field1; "F2", field2.

The ground lead is behind these terminals, toward the front [winch is now mounted in bar] of the ARB and hard to get to as I remember. If I remember, I used a short 1/2" open end to fix the ground lead to the terminal. Use washers and no-ox on the terminals for long, no corrosion problems. I have a pic of this, but can't find it at the moment. More s*** on this puter than I can figure out.

The three terminals on the winch that are insulated from the outside case are A, F1, F2 and should be obvious. The WARN web site is crap, but may be some help.

just an update to say it installed fine and the ground was the bolt on the other side of the case. short half inch or not, I don't know how you got that bolt to thread with a ground cable threaded and with the winch still installed in an arb. i hung the winch on wratchet straps unbolted it and got at the bolt that way.

Yea well, I broke my wrist in two places and it was a piece of cake.

Little humor there ;
