Hi guys
So I am just rebuilding an 8274 had it powder coated and I am sticking it back together.
Now the only issue I have is that when I took the top housing gears apart I noticed that the splined gear/shaft that slides through the big gear is missing the tips of the spline right at the end where the circlip holds so this means the it will not stay on an the gear can slide about.
I contacted gigglepin but I really don't want to spend £240 of a complete new top housing gears:(
I can't get it repaired I don't think it's literally the tips where the clip holds.
So I was thinking is there any reason why I can not have the large gear welded to the splined shaft gear?
Or is the stupid?
Usually two circlips would hold it in a fixed place anyway so could it be welded?

you could just do a tack on the shaft to hold the gear similar to the martak on the axle shafts
that way if you later want to fix it proper you only need to buy a shaft not a gear and shaft

I agree with Tin basher, ive used appropriately sized tacks on semi permanent installs from time to time. Tack in such a way as to facilitate easy removal with creative grinding minimizing collateral damage should you ever need to get it apart. So, yep, can be done.
