after all the work people spent on the trail and all the stuck trucks, its time for me to fill the gap in the front bumper.

i can get a hold of a warn m10 which is what the bumper is made for. it is also $200 cheaper shipped to my door.

the warn 12k will require some grinding and its $200 more which i dont really have...

is that that big of a difference or can i survive with a 10k?

Get the biggest winch you can fit on the truck, especially on an 80. I think I had a 12K on the front of the 80 that is now in the back of the 40, but am not positive. Will check.

If you're sold on the 10K it will be fine. Get a snatch block and you'll have plenty of pulling power for most situations. Snatch blocks take time to set up but they greatly reduce the amount of stress on the winch motor, improve its longevity, and let you pull at the correct angle.

12k or 15k for an 80. go as Jon Held his opinion :)

where the hell is john held these days?

i just figured save a few hundred... times are tight and that money will go to 4.88s or some preventative maint stuff...

look in the 3fe archives on JH's rant on winches pretty enlightening and humorous stuff. I remeber a few fall gatherings ago not being able to get my fj62 on 33's and only locked in the rear up an obsticle using both my 12k and being pulled by Randy's 12k as well. I ended up turning around and heading out the back. it was that intermediate trail that turned narly with the 5+ inches of rain we got that day.
before you buy a winch load your truck up with what you like to wheel with (tools and such) then go to a dump and get yourself weighted. then do the math.

I believe it is double the weight. So 6000lb x 2 = 12000.

Conservative.

weight your rig you will be surprised how much your girls weights. mine weights 6800lb and 80's are supposed to be hevier than 60's. mine is pretty heavy though:)

Jon Rutherford uses a Milemarker, maybe he can chime in on it.

his came unspooled in the stink pond at ma bell and whilst sitting in the mess all the stinky ass water filled his cabin.
