the valley, yeah that one
so here is my issue that I have been experiencing over the past two days. When I start my 60 after it has been running, it wants to die, but will idle just fine and drive fine if I rev it up to +/- 3,000 rpms. the bad thing is that the voltage gauge is now reading at less than 8 volts!!!! at first I thought it was vapor lock, but the carb fan works, the fuel filter is new, the carb is less than one year old, plugs/wires, etc are all relatively new, and then there's the low voltage issue. I also replaced the alternator and regulator about 1 1/2 years ago... I maintain the rig regularly, but am completely stumped! Oh, and the other weird thing- when I rev it up to +/- 3,000 rpms, the seatbelt light comes on! I assume that there must be a switch that has stopped working, but have no idea what/where that is... please help!

what about your alternator? Low voltage will cause random lights to come on in the dash etc. and other crazy seemingly unrelated problems to arise. check it out

will do that today, but still makes me wonder if the alternator can have an effect on the idle speed like that... I'll post results later today, thanks!

so the alternator was OK, but the fusible link was fried, but the actual "links" were still intact (the plastic housings melted!)-hence the voltage drop, the funky idle was an EGR control valve/module right above the EGR, I'm lucky- I get two things at once to break (at least it was only around a hundred bucks for all the parts), so for now everything seems OK.
