Wanted FZJ80 Hitch

Any one have a class III bolt on hitch for an FZJ80 they want to part with in San Diego. I bought a pop up trailer for a few trips this year and don't have the cash yet for a rear bumper with hitch and swing out carrier.

I can get a new one (reese) online for $149 + shipping. I have seen used ones for as low as $50 but out of state with $20-30 shipping and some were givin away for free. So I was thinking $50 or so if not rusted out or bent up otherwise I would order a new one. I just hate buying new when I know I will be taking it off next year for a new rear bumper. I can't think of much to trade other than my OEM take off front bumper, an antenna up down switch or the oem running board minus front flaps which I moddified for rock sliders. I'm in Scripps Ranch.

I took my Cruiser to Eckhart Hitches, and for around $200-$300, they would cut out the pintle hitch pattern on the rear bumper (the four bolt holes), and weld in a gusseted 2" hitch receiver, that would substitute for a Class III receiver. They'd even wire it up and everything.

Something to think about, anyway...

I'd be careful with that. What would they be welding it to and how? Not much there on the back of an 80 unless you go to the frame. Plus you can bolt a 2" receiver to the 4 holes as is.

I think the capacity for that is 1000 lbs. I wouldn't trust that.

yup, you'd want some serious ties to the frame. But you lose the spare tire space likely.

If you mean the bolted on receiver itself rather than what it's attached to, I doubt 1000lbs is realistic. the receiver/plate itself is likely tough stuff and welded together. And the tensile strength of 4 high quality bolts likely much higher than 1000 lbs. Think of these bolted recovery shackle mounts.
Now, the cross-member that's another story....
Would I tow a 10,000 lbs trailer with that attachment: no!
Would I tow a utility or pop up trailer: likely, depending on weight.

Oh yeah, you're right...I have a Kaymar tire carrier, so...yeah, that space is wide open. With the spare underneath, it would be a no go.
