Lou,
You are a gentleman and a scholar. It was your thread that had me contact Slee the other day and yes they do not perform such swaps anymore.
For some reason I’ve got to believe there’s a shop out there that is doing these and has gotten the process down pat. I’m an optimist but also an open to hard facts.
The search continues. Anyone in Southern California on here done a swap lately?

I will now troll the threads for the LS swap info.
Will you finish posting photos and info of the project? Everyone, including myself are 🤤 over it!

Nice to see this thread is at least getting some attention. Now if only someone could document the electrical end of things. There has to be a Toyota electrical guru out there who can figure out and document this deal. It would be the perfect setup for those of us who want to keep it Toyota. I guess i'm preaching to the choir.

I am a noob, but I have researched swaps a lot (for putting a VW TDi into my Toyota mini truck). For all the effort and money, why not go solid axle on the 100-series and supercharge that 2uz?

100 series SAS is not common but has been done:
Because then you'd have to drive around a 100 :flipoff2:

have you driven a 6BT and a 2UZ in an 80 series. Did you wear earplugs or just have a really loud radio?

The 2UZ is super quiet, I'll give you that.... but I don't think the gains are worth the effort. A 6BT is louder but not unbearable, that's just my opinion. I grew up around diesels, I kind of like the noise, I am weird :hillbilly: I also like hitting 8% grades fully loaded at 75mph... the 2UZ in my 100 can't do that...

I guess it just depends on what you need an engine swap for

There is a reason you cant find info on it, it's just not a good swap. Nothing wrong with the 2uz but the ls is easier to work with cheaper and there is more info on swaps than you know what to do with.

I would be willing to bet there are more ls swapped vehicles on the road than there are 80s on the roads.

You gain 25hp with a 2uz compared to the 1fz motor. If you pay 25k for a swap then thats about 1000 bucks per gained hp. Compared to a 3fe then you would be going from 155hp to 245hp. If you install doug thorley headers if they will fit that will get you another 20hp and 10ftlbs of torque according to dyno charts Ive seen.

I think mine might have been the last one Christo did.. I've done several JKU swaps for people in the past and for me, there is just not enough money in them if you do them correctly and to a level of attention to detail I demand. Not many people out there willing to pay the cash..

Slee was one company that didn't cut corners and matched my detail requirements. I'm glad they did mine...

Best,

John

I have not actually put this swap together but have been dreaming of completing a 2uz swap in either an 80 series or fj45. Based off practical thought and the build that @Jetranger did I have put together a package that I hope one day will find it's way into a project.

  • Bought a complete non-vvti 2uz out of a 2000 100 series.
  • Bought an a750f transmission from a 2003 100 series
  • Brought a 80 transfer case
  • Bought an entire wrecked 2003 4runner 2x4 (non-vvti 2uz, a750f trans). Pulled the entire harness, ecu, shifter, column, ignition, chip immobilizer, fuel tank, and anything related that might help swap the drive train. (Sold what I didn't need to make some money back.
I am sure there will be some electrical hurdles but knowing I have the complete electrical system and harness from one vehicle I believe they can be over come.

This is how i will some day do it. I personally think the key to pulling the swap off for an amature is having a complete donor vehicle to get all the electrical from in one piece. The donor vehicle ecu just needs to be specific to the engine and trans combo you plan to swap.

Again all I have done is bolt my drivetrain together and not finished a running 2uz swap, so accept this what little it is worth.

I am the other fool putting a 2uz in an 80 frame right now..... however, I have a 45 skin covering it all up. I call it Vera.

Really, I am finishing a project that @Tank5 did such a great job starting. Here is thread and video of starting it up. ---EDIT -- that is funny, posting this message a few minutes after he posted up....

The Tundra complete wiring harness does not have any wheel sensors, so I don't anticipate that issue.

I too would love to drop a 4.7 into my 80. Plenty of power and plenty of torque.

How hard would it be to mate an 80 transfer case to a sequoia transmission?

I am pretty sure the 80 t-case only mounts to a land cruiser transmission.

You would be better off using an LC transmission with 80 t-case.

I understand the love for the 2UZ, but for the effort required to do the swap, I would just go with a 4bt cummins....or, more idealy, a 6bt :) I believe wits end is working on an adapter for the 80 tcase to the NV4500 manual trans that would mate up with the 6bt :)

not to take anything away from whits end but there are open source plans for the adapter and the output shaft available on this site in the diesel section.

if was was going to do this swap I would be looking for an engine and trans out of an early 100, easier to mount up the t-case and non vvt for easier wiring and less things to worry about. if you get a 2uz out of a 2000ish tindra I believe that they did not have immobilizer so that would be one less thing to worry about. as for finding someone out of the goodness of their heart to figure out the wiring I think is a tall order, theres plenty of work and time that would have to go into it.

I have a complete and well received running 1999 100 series and a 1992 80 series. Should I marry the two together? SAS for the 100? Or a complete motor, tranny, Ecu and wiring for the 80?
Seems like it’ll cost the same to do either. 🤔🤔

A union between these two beauties?

105 is still 1FZFE so yeah you get a solid axle but still have to do an engine swap. And I think 2022 would be the first year they are eligible for import.

Can't we start importing 105 series next year? maybe a few years away. @beno ?

sorry, had the wrong link. I though you could get the 105 with 1fz, diesel, or v8 2uz?
