“1974 FJ55

Approx. 45000 miles. The odometer does work but the cruiser is being stored and I do not know the actual mileage.

I bought it from the son of the original owner. According to him his father bought it brand new in 1974 and it spent most of its life at a cabin in New Mexico.

I have no proof of the mileage, but if you drove it you would find it drives like new.

The paint and interior are original. There is minor rust in the lower front quarter panels. The floorboards are still white original paint. It has original jack, trouble light and starting bar.

I have done the following to it.

Recorded the radiator, replaced the water pump. Replaced the fuel pump.
Redid the head and put new exhaust on.
Removed all the smog(still have original parts). Replaced the distributor with a non-usa vacuum advance distributor and replace the carburetor base to a non usa to work with the new distributor.

The old owner had the exhaust routed wrong and caused the rear seat to get burned and the format. I have since fixed the problem and found a floor mat.

The interior is in very good shape except the back seat and the front seat on the driver’s side has small tears in it. Spector off road sells a seat kit for the fj55 and that is about all the interior needs. I have sor seat covers for both the front and back seats.

Also have a carpet kit for the fj55 and cover.

The heater motor sometimes sticks(has happened twice since I owned it) I have to take it out and spin it and then it works. Rear window works, have replaced the gears.”

Apparently some guy in Milwaukee bought it a couple days ago. Copied from BAT:

Ready for a crazy BaT story?

In 2009 this exact Iron Pig was on eBay, offered by the same seller. We agreed on a price (within hundreds of dollars of the current price) and I was about to wire the money when the seller emailed and said his computer system crashed at work and he needed time to sort it out and he had to put our deal on hold. Never heard from him again but regretted it ever since as finding a nice, clean 55 is pretty tough.

Then, thanks to BaT sharing the Craigslist ad I was able to re-connect with John, the seller, after 3+ years! After a few days of email tag John called me last night when I was driving home to work out the details on the sale. As I am speaking to him a ’74 FJ55 pulls out in front of me in traffic. Mind you this is Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the ghetto, and I haven’t seen a Pig on the road here in at least 5 years! If that wasn’t a sign I don’t know what is!

John has been great to deal with, said he remembered us making the deal 3 years ago and felt bad he forgot.

So at long last this FJ55 is coming to Milwaukee to live with an FJ40, the FJ45LV I bought via BaT, and our FJ60. It is a happy day for this life-long Cruiser nut.

Thanks BaT!
