Shortly after I put the lwb back on the road in '94 I was forced to learn more than I was really interested in knowing about the intricacies of the old rod linkage system, as it was painfully obvious that I was making minimal use of the carb.
I pulled all the linkage out, welded up everything that looked like it was suspect, ground the excess back down and called it good. Fast forward 13 years.
I noticed that the truck has been getting a little more sluggish lthe last year or so. I figured it had something to do with my bed rack and all the stuff I keep welding onto it, along with the sliders, spare parts, yada yada. Last week I looked down at the vacuum guage while I was going uphill and noticed that with the pedal mashed I still had 4" of manifold vacuum.
Suspicions aroused, I decided to pull the linkage apart again. Lookie what I found:
I still don't know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop, but I do know how many years it takes of daily driving to wear out rod linkage in a 45!
I took a few hours to weld up and reshape the gas pedal, the cam that it is connected to, the firewall pivot and and pivot bracket downstream from there, and voila, WOT is restored. I hope you enjoyed the 'show' burbankian.
Yikes! Did you mean W.A.T. ? for Wear And Tear? Glad to hear you've got WOT and no WAT left over! Damn, I can still only dream of actually starting my LV!
