Don't give me credit yet, I've been too ashamed to post that I was defeated and that the saga will likely continue.
Once it got really hot and humid I took it out and it continued to stall and cut out while driving and idling.
Since then I've cleaned the air temperature sensor(p0113), first code I've gotten in weeks... Was strangely happy to have a concrete lead... Sadly it didn't help... Next I thoroughly cleaned the throttle body. Tbd if that will fix it.
The others theories I will pursue if it doesn't work:
- bad gas? Replace with full tank of new premium gas from reputable source
- dirty injectors? Will run some a magic elixir (Lucas) to the gas to see if that makes a difference... Likely not
- vacuum leak? Maybe redo my boost leak test a few more times
- buy a VAGCOM... Probably should have done that first but they're a decent investment
- admit defeat and go to Stealership? NEVER
