VT or Upstate NY (1 Viewer)

If you were looking to buy a lot, or cabin in either northern VT or Upstate NY, which would you pick, and why?

what is the cabin for? year round? near water? remote? need more details

4season weekend/vacation getaway type location...preferably on a swimable lake...big pond.

Adirondacks come to mind, but I don't know enough about the ins and outs of each state to know which would be a wiser state to think about. BTW, we really like northern VT also.

i LOVE the adirondacks, wife introduced me to schroon lake and the surrounding area a few years ago. place is a ghost town in the winter, but closer to lake placid things pick up a little. If there were the means we'd get a summer place there. the taxes in NY are horrible from what my FIL says. but like every other state they are in debt to their eyes.

if you buy in VT make sure you go north enough to get away from the prius drivers. I live up in the hills but not far enough north, plenty of liberaltrons everywhere to limit fun.
