I've been searching through pages and pages of searches and cannot find anything that directly addresses this. When the vortec swap comes up, no one ever mentions keeping the A440f that is stock in the FJ62. Everyone automatically jumps to an H55f, NV4500, or any of the various GM auto trannies (this should probably tell me something). Has anyone kept it or know of any succesful swaps? AA offers the kit but it doesn't seem very popular (at least around here).

Would the transmission be strong enough to hold the ~330ft/lbs that a 5.3 has to offer? I am assuming the swap would require a pretty big cooler, at least.

I wouldn't try it with a stock A440F. Rodney from Australia told me that their built tranny can take a V8 swap.

Wehn I do my swap, I will go with a GM tranny because they are cheap and robust. Anyway, I am not sure that a Vortec will work without the tranny it came with.

Just curious, why do you want a 5.3 instead of a 5.7? For that matter, why do you want a Vortec instead of a TBI?

I think the issue is the OEM torque converter and the shift points of the A440F. The tranny should be stout enough. I would also just go with a doemstic tranny and a crawl box as the adapter to Landcruiser offset t-case to retain stock axles. Unless you plan on changin those too. Good luck.
