I have been involved in CA4WDC and TLCA since 1976 and have been on Trail Commitee for Sierra Trek for many years but now I am asking for local, non 4wd help.
I am a volunteer staff member for the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). We are putting on a disaster training session for CERT members of Los Gatos, Saratoga and Campbell on June 21 and need volunteers to be role players (“victims”) of a simulated earthquake.
This is a fun activity and Boys, Girls and Adults are welcome. The youth should be 8th grade and older or equivalent to Boy Scout 1st class rank. Some “victims” may be made up with simulated injuries and others will be classified as uninjured. We will have three scenarios running (see below) and need volunteers to help with each.
The event will take place on Saturday, June 21 at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center near the City Council Chambers and across the street near the Los Gatos High School.
I need the volunteers to be at Volunteer Registration at 7:00am so they can be assigned to a scenario and gotten into make-up if required. The event should be over at approximately 1:00 pm.
Please contact me at buzz_johnson@yahoo.com or 408-395-2891 home, 408-218-7895 cell, if you can participate.
Thank you.

This is what we are planning for the three scenarios. A CERT team will do one of the scenarios and then move on to the next.
1) An earthquake has damaged the Neighborhood Center, a two story building which is used for community meetings. Our CERT members will set up a command center, do a damage assessment of the building, medical assessment of occupants and possibly set up a medical triage for first aid. They will communicate back to their command center which will then communicate to the town command center. We need Youth and Adults to act as occupants of the building.
2) The earthquake has also caused a transit bus/car crash at the High School. Our CERT members will again set up a command center, do a damage assessment of the vehicle, medical assessment of the passengers and then move the passengers to a medical triage for first aid. They will be in contact with their command center and the town’s command center. We need Youth and Adults to act as passengers of the transit bus.
3) The last scenario is a missing person exercise where an adult has wandered away from the Neighborhood Center after the earthquake. Since he/she is not injured and Police/Fire are busy with other emergencies our CERT members will do a search and rescue mission to find this person. We need Adults (18 and over) to act as our lost person(s).
