I bought a 1977 FJ40 about 2 years ago (yeah from Columbia). I am trying to trace back an electrical issue, battery and alternator all check out but I think it is the voltage Regulator. The truck came with a huge stereo system with a giant base speaker in the back, amp, and about 4 to 6 other speakers located around the trucks interior, with wiring everywhere. I am removing all this to get it back to close to original configuration and clean things up. I have attached a picture of what I believe is the voltage regulator or could it be some type voltage regulator for the stereo system???
Has anyone seen one of these???

Doesn't look like OEM Toyota to me. Have you looked at the correct wiring diagram for your rig to see what the color coded wires go to.

Yeah, I have looked but I think they rewired it. Tried tracing wires from alternator which should be in line with voltage regulator but wires change color probably due to splicing. I know it isn't OEM but being it came from Columbia figured it could be anything that would require voltage regulated and sourced from anywhere outside of USA.

When my OEM alternator dies I going with a one wire GM type for about $100 for 120A.
