A couple of weeks ago the Voltage Converter on my BJ40 starting heavily smoking. I’ve removed it for replacing and it was a New Era AVR-551. This is a Colombian rig so who knows what was done with it - but looking online this part does not look correct for my year/model…Question is : is there a big difference in the performance of these voltage regulators or am I good just getting a replacement that syncs with the plug configuration that I have ?
Thanks!

Also, I’ve done a little research into wiring replacement and would love to get opinions on whether electrical should be patch and go or whether tackling the whole thing (eliminating converter and modernizing fuses) is worthwhile?

I had to buy a rebuilt alternator from China. I bought a Toyota external regulator just like the original. I’m not going to spend my time reengineering the electrical system. Toyota did a good job with that years ago.
