First off.....Hello and forgive the intrustion.

Now, on to the questions,

I will be coming work in Artesia in a few weeks and I may be able to drive my truck there. I will only be in the area for a couple weeks but may get a day or two off, to go ride. So......are there any places close to Artesia that would be worth visiting for one day, with some good trails?

I don't know if anyone that frequents this forum lives near or is from anywhere in that part of NM. See if you can find someone in Las Cruces or El Paso.

Unfortunately, Artesia is in a very flat, dry part of the state so you'll probably have to drive a couple hours in any direction to find some decent trails. My suggestion would be to head west into the Lincoln National Forest and see if you can find some forest roads to drive on around Cloudcroft and Ruidoso.

There may be some roads/trails along the Pecos river which is just east of Artesia that you can drive around on.

Looking at Google Maps, there appear to be some dry river beds to the southwest of the town that you could probably have some fun it. Be prepared for deep sand and small rocks.

If you're looking for something not 4-wheeling related, take a trip to Carlsbad Caverns. It's amazing.

Whatever you end up doing, please be safe and use common sense. I'd hate for to you break down somewhere remote NM w/o cell coverage!

The cell phone coverage in SE NM is incredible. Oil field money makes sure there is coverage. There are lots of trails east of Artesia for cruising in the oil fields, these range from very mild to very wild. Try the area east of the Pecos river and south of US 82, there is also a off road desert park on SR 360 south of US 82 that is open red sand dunes.

Where are you working at in Artesia?

safety is important....thats why i was hoping for a park of some kind because i dont have a winch, so i would like to have others around.

Im going to be working at a Par Five Cement bulk plant that we (company i work for) built.

I can't find anything on the off road park there, we stumbled on it quite by accident one day.

There is not alot of organized wheeling in the area but finding someone to help a person out is not to hard considering the amount of oil field traffic in the area.

thank you for yall help, i've decided that i'm not going to risk anything and leave the truck at the house. I really dont even know if i would have gotten a day off anyway.
