Hi guys,

I am new to this section and would like to buy an HDJ80 from Europe to import to Canada. FJ40 Garage ( yes he is German ) has looked at a possible purchase and sent me the VIN. Can anyone tell the production date from it. Any other info to be gleaned would be appreciated.

The seller claims it is a 92 model first registered in 06/92. In Canada a vehicle must be at least 15 years old to the month to be imported. I am sure there is some lag from manufacture to sale but I don't know how long that is.

HDJ80L-GNPEXW = JT111TJ80 HDJ80L-GNPEXW 1HDT 01/90 - 01/95 VX A LHD LUB TD2

183FG 10K294 A442

The production date was not on the door sticker? That is where it should be.

I can interpret some of this but not much really.

From what I understand there is not much encoded in the vin, only way to get data out of it is to compare it to records,

HDJ80 - is the model and engine code

L -left had drive

G : Station Wagon
N : Lift–Up Back Door
P : 4-Speed Automatic
E : grade, not sure what grade "E" means, a US LX450 is grade G
X : ENGINE SPECIFICATION do not know what E means, a K here would be DOHC And SFI
W: DESTINATION, "A" would be USA, do not know what W means

JT111TJ80 Japanese Vin or frame number

1HDT, Engine

01/90 - 01/95 Not sure what this data range is about, 1/90 was the stat of 80 series production IIRC

VX,

A

LHD, self explanatory

LUB : Lift Up Back Door

TD2

183FG 10

K294 axle code,
K 9.5”
29 4.1:1
4 lockers

a442, transmission code, it has the bus tranny

some of that is from here:

Thanks for that info. umm lockers. I have mailed back to Germany to see if someone there can figure out the prod. date.

Other VIN info

Not that this adds any clarity to the original production date question, but here's some other VIN info that could be useful in your everyday life...

JT111TJ8007008999

The first digit is the country of manufacture: J = Japan, 1 = USA, 2 = Canada (don't know any others...)

The second digit is, iirc, manufacturer: T = Toyota, H = Honda, etc.

Somewhere in there, I thought there was a Julian date code, too.

Well, good luck! Hope you can import your vehicle safely and legally! :grinpimp:

Let us know how it turns out!

Here is some of the missing info (borrowing from Raven...)...

G : Body style = Station Wagon
N : Rear doors = Lift–Up Back Door (hatch & tailgate) [C = ambulance doors]
P : Trans = 4-Speed Automatic [K=4sp std, M=5sp std]
E : Trim grade = VX [N=GX/LX, R=standard]
X : Eng = 1HDT [E=EFI (3FE), K=EFI (1FZFE), S=std diesel, W=turbo (1HDFT)]
W: Market = Europe [A=NA, K=Can, Q=Aus, V=ME, W=Eu, Y=Jap]

Cheers, R -
