Alright
I'm super excited and thought I would post up a picture of the new cruiser, I just got home and its parked across the street.... Its a 83 Bj60 with 255k km, factory PTO, considerable body rot on the back half, solid frame, and partially rebuilt drivetrain.
Bought it out in near Sundre, a small town NW of Calgary. My buddy and I headed out in his 66 Fj40 [bought off of a mudder] on its first big trip - about an hour and a half. It promptly blew out a heater hose and stranded us until we finished some roadside repairs... [see picture] Showed up about an hour late, and went through the truck with Ryan Myhr of Hilltop Cruisers.
I can't say enough about this guy - he restores / builds PRISTINE cruisers for a living. He's a machinist by trade - so does all the work in house, and applies the same rigor normally reserved to precise internal work to all of his work - NEW stamped body panels, custom exhaust manifolds, fantastic paint - this guy does incredible work. He typically only rebuilds 40s, and had this 60 sitting at his shop, unused and untouched.
So, after a few conversations, he sold it to me, and wanted to do a few touch ups before selling it. I thought this meant washing it, maybe changing the oil... Nope, full rebuild of the rear diff, glow plugs, pinion seal, u joints, fuel primer, front brakes, etc etc. No charge - simply because he wanted the truck to leave the shop in good order.
Great guy, a true craftsman - a really awesome experience. I will be doing a fair bit of work through him and I strongly recommend him to anyone in the area. If you're looking for a turn-key 40, you wont find better.
Sorry for all the blather - I'm thrilled to finally find a cruiser!
Cheers,
Crash
