Just wondering if anyone has noticed a vibration or noise between 3700 - 4000 rpm. When accelerating everything is silky smooth until 3700 rpm and until just about 4000 rpm this weird almost harmonic vibration or noise develops and then smooths out again. It happens in all gears. I have a 5 spd auto tranny. Anyone else????

Can't say i have that proplem. What kind of speeds are you doing in that thing and are shifting the auto manualy ?

Nope no manual shifting. Noticed it when I was on highway and climbing a long hill and tranny downshifted into that RPM range. After that I experimented with it more and discovered that it didnt matter what gear I was in and obviously what speed I was travelling. The RPM was the crucial factor. It feels like an harmonic vibration. Was just wondering as there are theories out there about this type of vibration as being the possible cause of the dreaded inner fender rips.

no way that should cause the fender rips as driving on washboard would be a lot more abusive yet still should be nothing for a truck.

Check your driveshafts and make sure they are lubed. The most probable guess would be the driveshafts.
are you running a ARB bumper on a stock suspension? what mods have you done not listed?

No suspension kit yet. Definately in the near future though as I am just investigating the options and so far am leaning towards an OME medium or heavy as I will be getting a winch also. I dont really believe that the vibration could be driveshafts as it occurs at the same RPM regardless of what gear I am driving in. If it was a drive shaft vibration it wouldnt occur at the same RPM regardless of gear as your drive shafts wouldnt be turning at exactly the same speed at the same Engine RPM in different gears. Thanks for the feedback though. I always keep an open mind.

I don't think the body rips would have anything to do with the vibrations. The only other proplem the fj has is the idler pulleys but i don't think thats it as i have had 3 replaced and never exprienced vibrations with them, but you never know. I say take it into the dealers and see what they say. keep us informed please.

Well our Cruiser had its first Oil change and check over yesterday and dealer was asked to check the vibration I noticed and they said they would also drive one off the lot and see if it had the same. They say that the vibration is supposedley normal with Cruisers. So I am asking if everyone out there can just check it out for me. Next time you are driving please run it through the first 3 gears to see if there is a vibration starting at around 3700 RPM and ending around 4000RPM and then post your results. Thanks in advance.
