For the past couple of months, when accelerating hard, especially around 50mph, I'm getting a lot of vibration. It reminds me of a similar feeling in my Saab when one of the CVs needed to be replaced, so I'm wondering if it could be the same thing here. There's some vibration at lower speeds when accelerating, but it's not nearly as noticeable. When maintaining a steady pace everything is nice and smooth.

To start narrowing it down I was thinking about removing the front driveshaft. Does that seem like a good first step, or is there something else I should try?

its more likely a drive shaft u joint, but you are on the right diagnostic track.

Lock the CD, remove F/R drive shaft and see if problem goes away.

I pulled the front driveshaft and everything is nice and smooth now. So it's something up there. The u-joints in the driveshaft feel smooth and there's no play when I twist the ends of it.

Thoughts on what to try next?

Grease the U joints completely and see if anything changes. if it improves in any way, then its the U joints. If it does nothing then its most likely a diff/CV issue.
