Shows what they know, I believe early model Land Cruisers had factory option for doors... it may be the FJ25 model. In fact, I think the hard top was an option as well.

You could always license it as a jeep , says anything prior to 1986 is allowed to run without doors. I'm sure once you tell them it's a 1975 "Jeep" style Land Cruiser and came from the factory with a hard top option (which it did) and soft doors. I've seen factory brochures from the '70's showing soft doors. It's guys pulling the doors of new Jeeps that are causing all the problems, they were never meant to be removed. Must be a Jeep thing.

The key part is if it was manufactured with doors. None of us own an FJ25. I think the early 40's that came soft top or no top had the same model designation. If a cop did cause trouble for no doors on an FJ40 the onus would be on you to prove the production code is correct for no doors.
The weird thing is you can legally drive on the highway with the windsheild folded down but the doors still need to be in place .

Any time I take mine out (yea I know it's only 2 or 3 times a year) I never have the doors on.
When a NICE police officer pulls me over it's never been an issue with lack of doors.... Do you mind if I look at your nice JEEP... My response... If I had a JEEP I would allow you to look at it. However this is my land cruiser and if you were wanting to look at it, by all means... fill your boots.

I went through a road block about 5 years ago with no doors on my 40. Cop gave me s*** for it, went on a minute long tirade about how my legs could come out and get pinched off etc etc " don't ever let me see you without doors on this thing again"...he was kindof a dick about it.

Anyways, point being, halfway through his rant, I notice his motorbike parked about 20 feet way, so I pointed at it, he went a deeper shade of purple and told me to get out of his sight.

They want doors on, whatever, but according to his argument motorcycles should be illegal and that's total bs.

In the end I didn't want the hassle, and had some cheap half doors that I could throw in the back.

Well when I rolled my 40 all those years ago, it kind of resembled one of those kids toys where when they smash up all the body parts fly off. My rag top shredded and disapeared, (soft) doors flew off, and window frame smashed. The seat belt and factory rollbar saved my ass. I ended up with a few stitches on my left knee where it must have hit the ground on one of the rolls.
So I had doors on, for a short time anyways. I'd like to get half doors one day, as I have this stupid reflex left over from my dirt bike days to stick my foot out the door when it gets tipsy, like thats gonna help.
