A search for a Vegas LC mechanic didn't lead anywhere so took it to my Mustang mechanic.

Whew! Took the Troopy to Discount Muffler and brakes near the airport and just got a call back....

Swap out thermostat housing...$210.00
Swap out Warn to Aisan hubs...$100.00
Brake job with new master cilyndar and 6 wheel cilyndars...$1,100.00
Replace oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket...$750.00

They also wanted to use Centric parts and not Aisan parts that were origional to Toyota in the early 80's.

I called Marv @ Specter off-road and told me to go get the truck and not let them touch it. They already did the radiator and thermostat housing though. He recommended calling Brian at BTB products in Henderson. I called him and he said I was being fleeced.

Anyone know Brian even if by reputation? If he's good in Marv's book he's good with me.

Funny, I met Brian at the Henderson Car show, seemed like a great guy and has a beautiful 40 he has built up. Got his card above my desk on the wall.

Also, check to see if Finday toyota in Henderson will work on your truck. Don't call the service department, Call and ask for Victor - he is familiar with the club and will give you the straight skinny and keep rates to a reasonable level. See thread here:

I worked with Victor before. My FJ Cruiser just for out of there for $3,500 because an inferior Toyota dealership in Arizona snapped off some alignment bolts and I had to put on a new set of lower control A-Arms.

The FJ Cruiser usually gets Toyota mechanics, however the Troopy is a different breed requiring more TLC.

Point taken. As far as a shop in the valley that understands older iron and can give it the attention to detail deserved, I would try Brian at BTB.

I wish I was not moving in two weeks to Dallas, I'd love to see your Troopy!

Good luck on the 40 search.

Can you guys post up Brian at BTB's contact info? What is BTB? Are the a Toyota shop? I'm always looking for a good Toyota mechanic. There seems to be some management changes at Findlay in the service section and all of a sudden, after four years of great service I have been getting the runaround there.

I wouldn't use BTB for anything. Ever. Again.

Brian does know Land Cruisers ,but Larry is a pirate.

BTB: you can buy better, but you won't pay more.

Findley Toyota. Had them do a wheel bearing repack a couple of months ago. They did a crappy job and had to have Slee off road redo the job so my 100 could be aligned. I contacted the service manager at Findley and he gave me a refund. Wow
