What would be reasonable to pay for a valve check/adjustment on a 93 FJZ80? I fear that I need to do this, but I really don't know anything about. All I know is that I have 120k miles, and it should probably be checked again.

And one more thing-- is there anything else that I should pay to have done at the same time? It seems like they have to take a bunch of stuff apart, and that it might be worth it to have some other stuff done while they are in there.

BTW, as I have not yet found any other 80 mechanics in Arizona, I will probably be taking this to a dealer.

Have your valve clearance been checked before? The numbers I always heard were at 100K and every 100K there after.

No idea about price to have it done. I have something I grabbed off from AllData about how to actually measure the valve clearance.

Good Luck...

Don't know how much it will run you, but if you're having them pull that all apart, I'd change out the fuel filter, check the VSV, and have them change the PHH (to the silicone hose). I'd probably do more too...just can't think of it right now...

I bought it with 109k miles, so I don't know for sure, but I doubt that it was done at 100k.

So I am going off the assumption that it has never been done.

Where are you thinking about having it done?

Easy enough to do yourself. Just follow the manual. When I was in Scottsdale, the dealer prices ranged from $250 to $600. It's not hard to do. All you need is a set of feeler gauges and basic tools.

like CM said it is not hard to check the adjustment, about a 1 afternoon 1 bananna job most likely they will be within spec and it ends there, put on a new valve cover gasket, spatk plug tower seals, pcv valve and gromet and put it back together,

if they need adjustment it can get slightly more complicated but cross that bridge if and when you get to it,

I don't really have many options-- dealers are all that I know. So probably Scott Toyota or Big Two.

I would try an independent place if I knew the mechanic had good 80 experiance.

This assumes that you don't need to make any adjustments-- correct?

Correct, but you should check it yourself beforehand anyway to verify the dealer check and to see what shims you will need (if any). I'm betting you won't need to make any changes.
