Delta Cam did what they called a 250-S grind for lower end torque and they resurfaced my lifters. Cam went back in with new timing gears. All went together find and all lifters slid right in and I heard them contact the cam. Timing marks are lined up but I had to rotate one rev to get on my TDC mark and the gear marks align again also. Now when I go to do the standard valve adjust 123579 ect. I find the 5 & 7 lifters rasied up. I pulled the rocker assembly off and pulled those lifters and they are free and sitting on the cam but raised up.
Could this be because of the new grind and will I have to TDC each cylinder to adjust. Or, could I have other problems. This is my first cam removal on any engine so I'm being cautious as well as confused.
Any help appreciated. Steamer

I've got it. And feeling dumb again. I was just assuming that when the gear marks lined up and the fly wheel pointer was on the line, I'd be TDC on compression. Not. TDC on compression for #1 puts the mark on the cam gear 180 from the crank gear mark. If I hadn't been able to see the gears I would have just rotated the crank 360 and gone on with the adjustment. Jeeez, with the new cam and all I was just jumping to conclusions.
Sorry

180 degrees out?

Friend, the timing marks should be pointing at each other with #1 @ TDC. Did you install the cam 180 out? You need to recheck that before firing it up. The crank keyway should be on top & 1 & 6 should be at TDC, if I remember correctly, though only #1 would be on the compression, #6 top of exhaust. I just built my 2F & what you got, hit don't sound right. By the way, I'm using that same Delta grind & really like it.

Buckwheat. I was thinking that but here's what I'm seeing. The gear marks line up and #1 is at TDC. If I rotate the crank one turn I'm back to #1 at TDC but the cam has turned a half turn and the mark on the cam gear is 180 out and away from the crank gear. Every two turns of the crank puts the gear marks lined up again. I'm figuring there's really no way to get the cam 180 out if the marks line up on one of the revoloutions. What got me confused is I just assumed that when the marks lined up it would be on compression #1 TDC. But it's not. It's on exhaust #1 TDC. If I had the cover on I never would of seen the gear marks and I would of just rotated till I had #1 TDC on compression and then gone on with the valve adjustment. I think I've got this right but please set me straight if I don't.
Thanks, Steamer

Steamer, TDC for compression is #1 at TDC & flywheel mark at or near pointer. The crank gear keyway should be at 12:00 on the crank - easier than looking for that freeking mark. The cam has to go in with its timing mark pointing at the crank gear mark. If not, the valve timing is 180 out. The cam is what times the valve openings & it does turn twice for each revolution of the crank, so it is possibile to have them line up & be wrong. Line the timing marks up with each other & check to see both #1 rockers are loose. It is not impossible the cam was ground wrong, but it is highly improbable at Delta. Don't forget to put the all-steel timing gear on.

I had this same problem the other day. Spin the crank 360 right back to the tdc line the dist pointer should move 180.

Should read " . . crank turns twice for each revolution of cam. . " Sorry for the misinfo

I've got it straight now. Thanks for the replies. Buckwheat, glad to hear you like the Delta grind. They were really fast on getting it done and shipped back out. While putting it back in I discovered that one of the new thrust plate bolts from SOR was deformed so I'm held up waiting on one little bolt. Oh well.
